I associated with some TradCats a while back who were always trotting out similar platitudes. I really wonder if even they believed. I asked about what the implications were of fossils, if life were discovered on Mars, modern miracles etc. Fairly basic stuff but the answer was always "it shouldn't matter because faith is faith" which never satisfied me. I couldn't just pretend and it felt insulting to a God I didn't believe in to do so (if that makes any sense but that is how I felt).
I could take the Evelyn Waugh route and convert on aesthetic grounds. Again I don't feel I could commit to something halfheartedly. I need to believe.

Life on Mars and fossils? What do those have to do with anything?
You could convert based on outcomes; it's pretty obvious trads have better life than non-trads, and that Christian art and architecture is superior to modern horrors. But I guess the point in faith is you believe . Most people manage it about something in their lives, if nothing else, based on their social circle's beliefs. Shitlibs certainly seem to have fanatic faith in their beliefs.

I was baptised, had the first communion, but did not go to the confirmation. I've been technically religion-free since then. I won't force myself to believe in something. If the Catholic Church survives Pope Francis, that'll be something.

I was baptized Presbyterian but have rarely gone to church.

Yes Cornelio, it is a fag church, like Westboro says

Received all the sacraments up to and including Confirmation. Pope Tumblr and the subsequent reaction to the Syrian Road Trip crisis has driven me completely out of the church. As far as I can tell, Christianity in all forms hates whites Christians in one way or another. I'm trying to reconstruct the PIE religion so that I may worship the Sky Father as my ancestors once did.

This is dumb as fuck. How could the Pope drive you away from the Church? Did he somehow invalidate the Catechism? Did he somehow end Christ's Divinity?

How especially in respect to Syria where he and the Church have stood on the side of Assad?

The comment about 'white people' makes no sense at all.

Are you sure that you're not putting politics above Christ?

I don't want to just meme about politics but rather point to an important religious point Nic raised. If you're a Christian you must be ready to be utterly defeated. You should expect the Church to betray you, as Christ was betrayed by Peter and abandoned by all the other disciples. You're asked to remain faithful to the end, but make no mistake, there will be an ignominious end. You will suffer. "I mean I was onboard until the Church leadership did something I really found to be questionable and disagreeable!!" Tell me, you know that the omnipotent deity died under awful torture as an example to mankind and you didn't foresee some political crisis, turmoil and mistakes?

Of course everyone is totally defeated by the world eventually, everyone meets the same fate as the cross-bearing Christian. Christianity is just honest about it.

The more I think about it, the more invocations of the Catechism sound like the GOP bleating about the constitution. What does it matter what the Catechism is when the church is effectively completely sub-Saharan Africans, Indios, and Filipinos? The greatest mistake the Church ever made was recognized by Hilaire Belloc - The faith is Europe and Europe is the faith. Once the Church made its mission the conversion of every non-European possible, it was the beginning of the end. I'm not even sure this move was entirely unsound theologically. The universality of the Church is inherently a problem to its own survival.

I struggled with this question as well, and you know as well as I that this all hinges on my belief on whether or not Christ rose from the dead. My current answer is "I don't know." Everything else is window dressing if I can't answer this question with anything other than "Yes." Maybe I'll be able to know the answer to that in the future. I don't dismiss that. But as of right now, I can't.

Protestant Churches are obsessed with every manner of pozz imaginable. Catholic Churches are making waves about becoming sanctuary sites for illegals. Nothing seems to be in my interests.

I am, I admit that. Which is why I'm shaky about my faith to begin with.
