I don't believe in much of anything, but I make this face at you for saying more people should be atheists. More people should be Catholic; it immunizes them from the worst forms of shitlibbery and degeneracy.
Salo is forum for handsome intellectuals who happen to be Bad Catholics .

Religion doesn't immunize you from anything, pedo priests galore. Also, as an atheist it's ok to hate the terrible Other without worrying about that a head-shrinking negro currently paddling his way to Europe is also made in the image of your silly god or however that works.

Anyway, I'm thinking more of the müslim world and those icky hindoos.

Yes, most atheists are completely pozzed. The alt-right has some who are well-adjusted and who lead moral lives, but we aren't the norm. Audacious Epigone has written that atheists are much less successful, adjusting for intelligence, than religious people: my sense is that atheism is attractive to disaffected losers, and it entails a lot of nihilistic baggage that exacerbates their loserhood.

There's also an emotional hollowness to atheism... I don't believe in the God or any kind of afterlife because I don't find them plausible, but I wish I could believe. Being an atheist means having to live with the feeling that life is meaningless and inconsequential, that there's no ultimate reward for what we do on earth. It's scary to imagine that there's nothing after death; I think the pervasive hedonism of modern society is partly a way for people to distract themselves from that.

I've read those studies, and believe them to be true. Based on what I saw as an academic; it blew my young mind that most of the successful thinkers were actually religious, if only in some nominal sense the way Freeman Dyson is. Atheism is spiritual autism and despair. I used to think the wonders of the universe were enough; they're not. Most of the universe is a vacuum, and 99.9% don't give a damn, even if they claim to "fucking love science" (and muh big assed fries).

I attribute whatever vague moral and common sense I have to the nuns who taught me in grade school. I think Evelyn Waugh admitted to being a horrible person, but claimed he would have been worse without the Catholic Church. I believe this to be true of myself as well.

Nietzschean will to power didn't even work for Nietzsche. People invent their own idiotic ersatz religions when they dispose of the old ways. Same moralistic fervor; usually directed in insane and destructive directions. Religious mores; at least you know the worst of their excesses. Catholicism built Western Civilization, and I happen to like Western Civilization.

You have a utilitarian view of religion. You think religion is useful to be successful and/or moral, or to preserve Western Civilization. For you it is a simple tool to achieve material goals. Your post reeks of materialism and displays the main reason why this "religious revival" is not possible anymore. Let's be honest with ourselves for once and for all -- I believe the people here to be intellectually courageous, why not admit the obvious?

Yes, this is true, and so should any sensible man. The ancients had a utilitarian view of religion. Rudyard Kipling, champion of Western Civilization had a utilitarian view of religion when he said, “All sensible men are of the same religion, but no sensible man ever tells.”
Cornelio
I agree. But I want you to admit is that the catholic Church of today is the anti-thesis of this "religion" Kipling speaks about. Every man who submits to Kipling's "Gods of the copybook headings" should stay away from the Church, and I say this with great pain in my heart.
Cornelio

"With great pain in my heart" - I like it, very dramatic.
