^^^ high on my list of places I really want to go to. Hmm.

Inkarri

Basically a town built on top of a huge raised platform. It was sort of like the "Vatican City" of the Chachapoyan Kingdom. At, 3,000 meters above sea level it is one of the highest examples of civilization in the world for its time period. One carbon dating report puts it back to about 300-500 B.C, but the whole interior has not been scanned or excavated deep within yet. There could be empty pockets, tombs, tunnels, maybe even an older settlement underneath. There is an almost complete blackout on Kuelap in Spanish chronicles but there are some mentionings from early in the day about blonde mummies having been encountered at the site. There used to be a lot more goodies there like skulls and mummies but it has all been robbed or destroyed over time. The "forbidden zone" that is restricted to all, which is the top most tier where the aristocracy resided, could still have some worthwhile goodies hidden away.

Sidenote: Kuelap was definitely a better looking place before the 90s and new millenium.
A lot of the restoration/preservation work and clearing of vegetation mucked up the site and has decreased its "ruin aesthetic".

the Way of the Patriarchs is a trail along the spine of the west bank, unfortunately I cannot find any good pictures. There are ancient mikva'ot (Jewish ritual baths) along the trail, it's in particularly beautiful part of the region.

This is near it
