This is a nice movie about losers, I enjoy movies that unmask the ugly reality of being a lazy coward who lives in the clouds (3/5)

Guest review by Harry S. Truman:

Frances Ha Or "The making of a spinster". A loose girl incapable of hard work, decency, perseverance, or thrift, throws her life down the toilet. If I were to meet the father of this poor creature I'd give him a one-two to the jaw, you can count on that. America deserves better (1/5)

Another Year
Mike Leigh, 2010

I enjoy Mike Leigh's work. His "kitchen sink realism" paints the proletariat and lower middle classes as they really are: worthless. He always uses ugly actors, because people are ugly, deformed and stupid. Also, he usually works with a british cast, so I suppose non-ugly actors might be in high demand.

In this movie a happy, middle aged married couple is continually harassed by friends who live lonely and miserable lives. It makes clear that happiness is an exception, emerging from hard work, selflessness and simplicity, and therefore impossible to achieve for most of humanity, who are powerless against temptation and boundless egoism. His previous pro-abortion film "The secret of Vera Drake" makes sense from the perspective of someone who has penetrated the reality of life on this Earth:

“To Never Have been born may be the greatest boon of all” - Sophocles

Greenberg

En Passion, Bergman

Sydow, Andersson, and company are enchanting as usual. Movie about isolated personalities who will never really know one another, and are doomed to darkness, loneliness, delusion, and rejection. Random cruelty, disconcerting inconsistencies in the appearance of the images. Worth seeing.

Greenberg is a revelation. 2 thumbs up. way up.
