The soldiers had been drinking beer when they entered the zoo Thursday night after it closed, said the guard, Zuhair Abdul-Majeed. After the man was bit, the other American shot the tiger three times in the head and killed it, he said.
The head of the zoo confirmed the story in an interview with Agence France-Presse.
"The soldiers arrived in the evening with food and beer, accompanied by a group of Iraqi police officers," Adel Salman Musa said. "One of the soldiers, who the Iraqi police said had drunk a lot, went into the cage against the advice of his colleagues and tried to feed the animal, who severely hurt his arm."
The tiger tore off one of the soldier's fingers and mauled his arm. Another soldier immediately fired at the animal and killed it, Mr. Salman Musa told AFP.
"The soldiers don't have the right to behave like that. That was the most precious and valuable animal in the whole zoo. It was 14 years old and had been born here," he said, adding sadly that he has no way of stopping the regular parties held at the zoo by occupation forces.
It was impossible to reach the U.S. military spokesman's office because the telephones have not worked for three days, Associated Press said.
The zoo reopened July 20, three months after Baghdad was captured by the Americans.
It had 1.5 million visitors in 2001 but hit hard times more recently. When zoo workers returned after U.S. forces occupied Baghdad, some animals lay dead in their cages. Others had escaped when mortar rounds blasted open the bars and yet others had been looted. Some wild animals roamed the park freely, including a bear that mauled and partially ate three civilians, and three lions that were shot to death when they tried to pounce on a contingent of invading American soldiers.
Since then, the surviving animals have been nursed back to health, and more animals have been brought in from a small private zoo across town and from the private zoos found in the palaces of Saddam Hussein's family.

These guys, and our Government. are giving us so many reasons to perfect our German, or French. At the least, learn a believable Irish or Scottish accent. I do want to be able to travel in Europe again someday.

There is only one problem with your theory and that is that a modern soldier has to know so much stuff today that if you took only idiots you would have a mob instead of an army. They tried what you allude to during the early years of the "VOLAR" army (volunteer army) and it didn't work. Around 1981 this was changed. Even taking into account that the army tries to make its equipment "G.I. proof" doesn' allow them to take too many idiots in. I think that up to a point they do take in a certain number of mental defectives to avoid being accused of being "racist." but that number is held as low as they can get away with.
What those men did at the zoo requires them to be punished to the fullest extent of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. I suspect that they were pissed off about being lied to about how long they would be there, got some bootleg beer from the locals and proceeded to do something extremely ignorant. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen that happen.
As for your comment that "most American soldiers are psychopaths," I couldn't disagree with you more. There are some jerks in the army and all armies have a few yard birds like that, but the vast majority conduct themselves well and are probably saner than the general public, if for any reason they are confronted by reality whereas, our dumb down public lives in a cloud coo-coo land.

My personal statistics were thus:
Out of every group of 10 new Joes, 1, maybe 2 were A-J Squared Away. You could trust them with anything and started grooming them to take your job from the first month.
Then comes the middle 5 or 6, who you can work with and train and make decent soldiers out of. Sometimes one or two screwed up and you dealt with it either under your own authority and perogative and kept it "in house", or UCMJ'ed their ass.
Lastly comes the dirtbags, of which there were always 3 or 4. Losers. Reprobates. Unable to train them, you regulate them to a desk, where (you hope) they don't screw up too badly, or transfer them to another unit.
I always kept track in my head of who was squared away, who was a reprobate and who owed their assignment to Affirmative Action or Quota assignments... white guys were almost always the squared away ones (with the occasional sleeper black or hispanic), most times it was an even mix of mixed-race females and white guys in the middle and full-blood immigrants or blacks in the bottom tier. I never went after anyone, they always screwed up first before 'Big Sarge' got a case of the ass and dealt with them. Very few of them were what I would consider 'psycho's'...
By the way, every picture you see on any broadcast media outlet shows white guys in combat, not blacks, females, messicans or anyone else. Always the stalwart white male is out there getting shot at while Jesse Jackass and DiFi bitch about how their group is getting picked on.

Enough is enough. Our soldiers are ALL gonna go apeshit if they're over there much longer. I don't believe in open-ended 'peacekeeping missions' without clear objectives because it turns our armed forces personnel into political footballs in harm's way. Trust me - after 2004 and the eventual Jew victory at the polls, it's only gonna get worse for our guys. Either deploy them against Tel Aviv where some good might be accomplished from all this or bring them home to their families.
The Jews and Dick Cheney's oil buddies aren't worth one American soldier's [I]fingernail[/I]. We should be drawing an important lesson from the Iraqis, however, and that's how to resist the hegemony of an occupying military force. Rather than opening our Bibles to the Book of Revelation and wishing really hard for total chaos and breakdown of society, we should be waging a low-level war of attrition on ZOG, while we still [I]have [/I] an intact infrastructure. (But then at least the Arabs have their own media to [B]remind[/B] their people of who the Real Enemy is. We don't.)
There's only one possible mission the US military is justified in engaging in in that part of the world and that's the invasion, conquest & eradication of the destabilizing terrorist force known as ISRAEL.

I'm proud to be an Irish-American, and even more thanful that I can drop the latter part of that if things like this continue....

This is totaly false. Maybe in the 70's the US armed forces were somwhat like this. Certainly not today. The vietnam era teenage conscript military did have problems with defective personal and bad discipline but there have been some big changes.

That soldier probably thought the tiger looked really cute and fuzzy and tame, like a giant housecat, until he went into its personal space. What a dumbass! He's lucky he didn't get his head bitten off instead of just a finger.
It's not clear to me if the solider who shot the tiger did so to protect the injured soldier from further harm, or if he shot it just to be vengeful. If it was to protect his buddy, then that's understandable. If he did it to exact "justice" -- as if an animal can be morally responsible for anything it does -- then he's an idiot and should be punished.
