Can someone clarify or submit recommended reading on the use of the term "Caucasian" to refer to descendents of the Germanic tribes?

Doesn't it refer to descendents of tribes who originally inhabited the area around the Caucasus Mountains?

Weren't the Khazars from the Caucasus Mountains and Volga river valley area?

Aren't Ashkenazi Jews Descendents of the Khazars and therefore "Causcasians"

Why is the government so insistent on labeling us Caucasians?

Racially conscious Whites seldom refer to themselves as Caucasians but I've never found the whole story behind this category.

I have found Richard McCullochs Racial Compact website to be a helpful and accessible source for questions like this one:

http://www.racialcompact.com/index.html

Per McCulloch, the high-level racial (or as he term subspecies) classification is:

Outline of Human Racial Classification:

I. Capoid or Khoisanid Subspecies of southern Africa

II. Congoid Subspecies of sub-Saharan Africa

III. Caucasoid or Europid Subspecies

A. Mediterranid race (including Semites) B. Dinaric race C. Alpine race D. Ladogan race E. Nordish or Northern European race F. Armenid race (includes Ashkenazic Jews) G. Turanid race
H. Irano-Afghan race I. Indic or Nordindid race
J. Dravidic race

IV. Australoid Subspecies

V. Mongoloid Subspecies

Please note that McCulloch meets with some resistance in certain circles here due to his insistence on the 'Nordish' category that embraces most of the indigenous populations of NW Europe. Repost with caution!
