Took one for the team last night, swallowed a couple of Dramamine and watched the Bush speech. I'll tell you, it was surreal watching the boy-President use all his concentration not to mispronounce words and keep a straight face. You could almost see the beads of sweat break out on his forehead as the rusty mental machinery strained to keep up.

As for the content, well I'm sure there are plenty of online sources for the text of his carefully-vetted panhandling, but the gist of it is that we'll need $87,000,000,000 (a billion here, a billion there; pretty soon you're talking real money) for mideast operations over the next twelve months, although where that cash is to come from is anyone's guess. Certainly, Bush's palm was out for anyone who wants to deposit a few bil, but so far I don't see anyone rushing to fulfill that request. It appears that Europe may be willing to help, but of course they're going to extract some massive concessions from the administration, though I have my doubt that the neo-cons in the administration would be willing to share the spoils in Iraq even slightly, so I would venture a guess that our troops are going to be over there on the, as the speech termed it, "front lines of freedom" :dung: getting shot at for the forseeable future. If all else fails, I suppose the Fed can just print up another $100 billion or so, but that wouldn't be too great for the economy. Weimar inflation, anyone?

Which brings me to the next point. Several items were notable for their absence. Mainly, lack of any mention of WMDs (like that was a surprise), though a "tyrant with terrible weapons" (like what, sharp sticks?) was mentioned. Also, there was a conspicuous absence of any plan to rotate troops home from deployment in Iraq, so it appears that the troops can look forward to more fun in the sun than they were led to believe (again, no surprise there). Draft, anyone? I suggest starting with the FreeRepugnant membership rolls.

Overall, the tone of the speech was one of barely concealed official desperation, as the light begins to dawn (think: 15 watt bulb) on Bush that the neo-con advisers who pushed him into this mess may not have had the best interests of Bush at heart (I won't pretend that even Bush was stupid enough to think this was in America's interest) and may have had, shall we say, "other priorities" when it came time to bring the military into action. Supposedly, the stock of the neo-cons is beginning to fall in the administration, but I'll believe it when I see Perle and Wolfowitz spare-changing in front of the Israeli embassy in NY. Although they may retreat into the shadows, the neo-cons' presence won't be actually diminished; Ariel Sharon will see to that, but Bush may need some gentle coaxing to see the light, and I'm sure the NY Times would be more than happy to provide the venue.

To sum up, I saw that Warren Zevon died today, which made me realize that a line from one of his songs perfectly captures the essence of the speech and the situation overall:

"Send lawyers, guns and money. The sh*t has hit the fan."

I think that's a little too hard on the man. Yes make a critique of what he saids(the content of the speech), but if he shows signs of nervousness or misprounces a word, lay off. Often when I give speeches I almost always misprounce at least once. Some people are like that, go blame God for that!

Other than this I agree with your assestment of the speech. Personally I find Bush's speeches to very dull and simplistic, and almost always have the same content.

But you're not the President. I can't run a touchdown and that's why I don't play for the Chiefs.

I thought the Bush speech was surreal. What a load of lies. I thought I heard him mention WMD - was I imagining things? I was having a vodka. We truly have a kindergartner for a president.

Thanks for watching for me. I tried, but made it about 10 seconds into the CSPAN replay before I got repulsed and turned it.

If Bush insists in being out of his element, which is at the 19th tee with a bourbon and water, he reaps what he sows.

He may have mentioned them, but I don't remember him doing so. I had a hard time watching the speech without wanting to flip to something less offensive, like soft-core porn on Cinemax or Bill Maher.

I think that's a little too hard on the man.

Pretty much what Hugh L. said. This isn't Toastmasters. Romper Room is over. Finito. We're dealing with serious issues of war, terrorism and how to pay for it all and the guy can't even pull off "Serious and Presidental" without straining something.

Man, we're in trouble.

He mentioned them and claimed Hussein had used them.

It was indeed surreal.

What Bush conveniently forgot to mention is that the poison gas was used during the Iran-Iraq War, when Saddam was a de facto American ally.

Yes, I guess those WMDs were being used about the same time that Donald Rumsfeld was in Baghdad shaking Saddam's hand.

Bush is like a BAYWATCH regular who's mystifyingly been given the lead role in a Royal Shakespeare Company production of HAMLET - he is torturously unsuited for the part, laughably unconvincing, and while both the audience and the rest of the players on stage await his soliloquys with dread, when they come he's even worse than they were steeling themselves for.

I found his speech to be awful and all I could recall of it, when it was over, was the part about the $87 billion. He is single-handedly turning the US into the UK circa the 1970s: a dead gray socialist behemoth, its people either taxed to death at usury rates or - more likely - on the dole and increasingly alienated and aimless. Given the particular money-sucking black hole he's committed us to in the Middle East, I can't see how there is any reversal of course possible. Even if all the troops and weaponry were to be pulled out tomorrow, the damage wrought on the economy will be felt for a decade at least. Since the balance of his "Presidential legacy" has been comprised of equal parts sleeping through "Kenny Boy" and Enron, agitating for $5-an-hour Mexicans to replace American workers to maximize corporate earnings, and squinting for effect while citing Scripture.

It's a dark joy to watch Boosh the Talking Chimp eat humble pie. No ludicrously triumphant carrier landings preceding this speech, eh? Well, the tiny minority of Real Americans tried to warn the stoopid bastard to stay out of this bear trap, but oh no. He preferred the sage advice of a pack of stinking Trotskyite ewws. So his approval rating is in the crapper and U.S. troops will continue to be snuffed for the forseeable future.

Bravo, Booshy.

As for the $87 billion he's mewling for, that's in addition to the $60 billion already pissed away in that sand monkey paradise - for a grand total of $147 Billion.

Eh, what the hell, right? We're Amurrica, the richest, most powerful nation on earth, by God! It ain't like we got any potholes to fill or "downsized" working-class Whites without health insurance...

It's really depressing. They just never got the bugs out of MK-ULTRA, which has got to be Dubya's real alma mater.

The whole trouble with mind control is once your finished creating your "assasin" or "president" or whatever there's just not going to be much mind left.

About 20 years ago the zombie John Hinkley tried to shoot a president. Now John Hinkley is the president.

Precisely. What I find intolerable is that the mainstream media is so compliant as to never point that out.

George is beginning to look like Lawrence Harvey in The Manchurian Candidate. He's getting that distracted look around the eyes that Harvey had down pat. If Bush jumps into the lake at Central park I wouldn't be at all surprised.

His control isn't Angela Lansbury though. It's Richard Perle.

That still doesn't really critique my point. Some people are good speech givers, others are not. Thomas Jefferson wasn't a good speech giver, which is why he always had somebody else read them. Not every great leader in history was a good speech giver.

I agree with you here, I thought the speech was total BS. But I'm not going to criticise Bush for being nervous when giving speeches, which is hardly uncommon among many normal people.

However, Presidente Jorge Boosh is indicative of the United States overall mentality. He is quite suited to run this asylum and his speeches are perfect for the grazing cattle.

PREDICTION: RETURN OF THE DRAFT IS COMING.

Xmetalhead,

I think that you are right. Bill Kristol and Fred Kagan can't quite bring themselves to utter it in this editorial, but it seems to me that is what they aren't hinting at along with making a veiled threat to our punk president. If the draft is brought back they should grab all the "freepers" and the "dittoheads." They would make great cannon folder for the Zionists and their plutocratic allies.

Sert, interesting and telling editorial by neo-hawks Kristol and Kagan. I guess they know military tactics since I'm sure they served their country well during their military careers....oooooopss, a, um, excuse me, sorry, NOT!!!!

These evil bastards are softening up the American sheep to sacrifice their sons, husbands and fathers for a desert adventure in a country that hates us.....rightly hates us, I should add, and wants to kill any American they see. And these same Zio-hawks who started the war are soiling their panties at a sustained guerrilla war in Iraq and a Iraqi resistance to American-style "democracy". Thing is, more American troops in Iraq just means more dead Americans. Also, Iraq ain't going democratic either.

Draft is a logical solution for the War Party. Reservists are now being required a minimum 1 year tour of duty and the Empire's new adventures will need fresh meat to grind in Iran, Syria and North Korea. But let's see how well the negroids and mestizos take Draft assignment in their ghetto sh*itholes accross AmeriKwa.....I can smell fire burning already.....and with it, America.

Alright, 18-34s - will you go if called? This is one of those that always splits the paleo/racialists, with even the Jew-wise saying, "It would be my duty." But so gross is the Jewish control over this "war" that the legal requirements of the U.S. begin to look awfully technical indeed.

Alright, 18-34s - will you go if called?

Not only no, but HAYL NO!

Now if they were calling for volunteers to secure the (U.S.) border, count me in, but since that ain't gonna happen, I can look forward being called a coward by the likes of Rush, The Poddys, Goldberg, Kagan, Krauthammer, Kristol et al. who all selflessly served this country by dodging incoming non-kosher tater tots during brutal food fights in Ivy League cafeterias. The horror, the horror!

Oh wait, Rush didn't even face that "danger", now that I think about it. :thd:

**But so gross is the Jewish control over this "war" that the legal requirements of the U.S. begin to look awfully technical indeed. **

That glaringly obvious jewish presence gives me hope that the goyim may balk, but the Zionist Christian wing is pretty rabid, although if they're rabid enough to send their kids into that meat grinder remains to be seen.

The straw that breaks the camel's back, eh? I can see it. Jews want White sons dead, and White mothers will go crazy - even if it means naming the Jew. Hey, it could happen.
