In case you haven't noticed, I have upgraded the forum to different software. As with any major change, over time some kinks will have to be worked out. If you have any problems whatsoever, please send me a private message or email to siteadmin@originaldissent.com.
There was no real easy way to transfer to the new board, so I just decided to go ahead and get it over with. Please be patient as this new format should work much better in the long run.
As always, thanks to each of you for participating here.
Best regards,
Jason / Texas Dissident

Will it no longer be possible for us to post or send links to OD threads without informal lurkers having to log in to read them?
Yes, the forwarding sign-on screen is simply a temporary measure so everyone won't get freaked out if they go to the old cgi-bin address. I'll get all the links sorted out shortly. I promise. And you're right, this new board is much more secure.
And what do the blue squares in "Member Levels" designate?
Right now I'm not totally sure, but I believe new members will have one, members two and senior members three.
Thanks for checking it out Unexpurgated.

Go into your Control Panel and click on board options. It has a place for you to set your own time there. I had to change mine as it was set to Zulu time.

The software doesn't seem to be aware of Daylight Saving Time: I had to set it to Mountain Time to show the correct local time.

I was just wondering Miss Bushie BTW. Maybe we could swap ideas, and together make millions together. I was thinking by now there ought to be a huge pent up demand for an "anatomically correct" George W. Bush blow up doll.
Of course, I am a little vague on the exact details. But I thought you and your Bushie friends ought to be able to enlighten me on some of the more "personal" details. Lets make this doll completely likelike ;)

Changing passwords seems to have some kinks - I'll explain privately. Also, I noticed you've deleted all our older threads before April 20. Is this just because 1. you're running low on storage space, 2. you plan to do this later, or 3. is it actually in honor of rememrance of Adolf Hitler's birthday?

Thanks, Leveller. This software is based on PHP script, not Perl like the old board. Although you will get arguments from the programmers, PHP is much lighter and faster than Perl. Plus, I should be able to tweak the forum much more as PHP is easier to work with. I hope to make the entire site more interactive with the forum, much like what we were doing with Neo-Con Watch.

Are you using Netscape 6? I do, and I have the same issue. The text edit boxes on version 6 seem to be very poorly done. I haven't looked into the problem at all, so I dont know if there is a fix. I have found some ways to overcome the flaws. You can highlight the area where the text should be, or you can start inserting spaces until you see your all your text. Or you can use IE.

You're right, its a Netscape 6 issue. Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately Netscape 6 is the only browser that works on my machine without crashing regularly. (I did type this on IE though) like IE ad Opera do.

I'll have to give Opera a try. I dont like IE. I dont like Microsoft.
A couple things that are really awful about IE are its caching, and that it maintains two hidden index files that contain the history of sites you have visited. You cant do a decent DOD erase. Unless something has changed since I last looked into it.

One of Opera's main concerns is security. What I enjoy about it most is the ability to run numerous windows inside one browser. If you want to erase all cookies, visited sites, etc., all you have to do is go click one button in the file submenu and it is done. Plus, I believe it moves much quicker than IE or Netscape and I use all three for the web page programming.

I've just been testing the edit box using the kmeleon browser and it seems fine (or am I not doing the 'wrong' thing?). kmeleon is a lightweight browser that uses the same 'gecko' rendering engine as netscape (possibly a different version though). How's that, rban?
Some have suggested a troll avatar, but like yourself I'm partial to the swami. See how gracious we are?
Let this serve as a notice to all our political and ideological enemies who don't have the guts to register and mix it up, yet disparage us as intolerant "haters." Not that we will always accomodate them, as they don't accomodate us on their home turf. But I'll give you this, rban, you at least have had the fortitude to weigh-in and argue your positions, even though I remain convinced that a good deal of your input is tongue-in-cheek.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, if members can conduct themselves in a responsible adult manner and not simply troll or disrupt, they can participate here. I have great confidence in the general ideological position of OD and as such don't feel threatened by posters who do not necessarily toe a certain philisophical line.

I thought you wanted it to use exclusively? If I put it in the avatar selections then anyone can use it. You can upload your own from your control panel, so that may be the way to go.

In case any of y'all haven't noticed yet, I just completed a major upgrade to the entire forum. There's a mess of new features and to be honest, right now I'm not sure how all of it works. Please excuse the OD logo's tackiness for the time being. I've got to re-edit the style-sheets and html to get it all looking pretty again.
From a user standpoint, one of the new features that might have the most impact is the new "My Assistant / Browser Buddy." Just look around and see what everything does and as always, if you have any problems or notice anything out of whack, please send me a private message or email.
I appreciate your participation and support in this transition process. This upgrade release has been long awaited and I think each of you will enjoy your experience here that much better.
Regards,
TD

Tex, I preferred only one row per topic on the 'View New Posts' page, because it was more compact. Maybe that's just because it's new though.
2002-10-29 23:36 | User Profile
I cant tell too much of a difference, other than the font seems to have changed. So everything that I've gotten accustomed to using seems to be the same. Anything that I did not previously use, might have changed. But I cant tell. Kinda like how you drive by a place every day and then suddenly one day, out of the blue, you realize they've put up a new building.
I like the 'View New Posts' on the main page. I'll have to try out the other new features. But it looks good, and everything seems to be working just fine.

Leveller, what shows up on the latest post search can be modified. I'll look into it.
The basic code has been lightened and there's a number of little bells and whistles added. Do check out that 'My Assistant' feature. I believe it works fairly close to a Self Search type function.

Hey Folks!
I'm new here. Although I've been around the net for years, I have only just found this intriguing site.
I'm ex-military, live in South Central Texas, spent 6 years in Germany, and find that my definition of conservatism clashes greatly with what I am being offered politcally today. Seems my portion of the spectrum was left off without my consultation. :)
I'll likely just sit back and watch awhile, so as not to commit any procedural gaffes.
Just for clarification, are there any "taboo" topics here?

Please look at Frank Gaffney's 11.19 article "The Jayna Davis files" at townhall,.com.
Jayna Davis is the Dallas independent reporter who covered the OC bombing, and exposed how the government investigators first identified the perps as includig "John Doe #2", complete with Iraqi-looking composite pic. Then suddenly, mysteriously, dropped all reference.
Someone posted on this on OD, claiming some Chicago lawyer with pro-Bush-Baker-Scalia ties was holding evidence exonnerating McVeigh, to which I responded they were as guilty, and more, for concealing evidence that kept the public from knowing what went on.
They predictably shut up, like pathological liars and psychotic killers do.
What you've got here is the pathological liars and psychotic killers blasting Americans, shooting us in the back, now covering their tracks in order to keep it going. Gaffney is a neocon, you know.
Gaffney tries to lay it off on the CIA, but they were all in on it -- Keating, smearing Rep. Key.. "In a June 13, 1997 television interview, (then Oklahoma AG Drew) Edmunson was asked why those witnesses who saw McVeigh with with other suspects were never called to testify at McVeigh's trial. Edmunson replied that prosecutors usually don't present witnesses whose testimony isn't 'credible' or conflicts with other witnesses. Rodney Johenson, who did see McVeigh with another man in front of the Murrah Building moments before it exploded, called Edmunson's statements 'misguided'. "I took those comments to be rather personal," said Johnson." Stephen Jones' Writ of Mandamus stated: "This terrorist attack was "contracted out" to persons whose organizations and ideology was friendly to policies of *the foreignh power (*unidentified by him, but considered to be Iraq) and included dislike and hatred of the US government itself ..possibly a desire for revenge against the US" (*p. 218, D. Hoffman, The OC Bombing and the Poiticsl of Terror)
There wer a lot of Iraqis settled around N. Dallas - OK Tulsa areas after the Gulf war, that many gvt. orgs kept an eye on.
So what we have here is slaughter of Americans by some pathological liars and psychotic killers inside this right-wing Cath-O-Jew rut slut media/ political/law enforcement/military complex. Now wanting to slide under the blood they smeared across the Southwest by blaming somebody else, like they always do.
Please post up Gaffney's spewmatum for me to respond to. This goes beyond hate, TD, as I've said many times. It goes to revulsion of being in the name of America, humanity, and existence itself. It is inside the right-wing, and they know it. I hope you will turn on them with the fury of the ones killed there; at Columbine; by the DC sniper; the first Gulf war; and this Iraq fiasco. Gaffney is one of them.
