Bill promotes anti-gun teaching in schools? Group fears 2nd Amendment will be downplayed, ridiculed

By Jon Dougherty © 2003 WorldNetDaily.com

A national gun organization is urging its members to contact their legislators in opposition to a bill it says will lead to more anti-gun education in public schools.

Virginia-based Gun Owners of America claims H.R. 1078, which establishes "academies for teachers and students of American history and civics and a national alliance of teachers of American history and civics," would further erode support for the Second Amendment.

A version of the bill has passed the Senate, but the House bill remains in the House Education and Workforce Committee. It was introduced by Rep. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and has 220 co-sponsors.

According to a summary, the bill would direct the chairperson of the National Endowment for the Humanities to award competitive grants to nonprofit educational institutions to "establish presidential academies for teaching of American history and civics to offer workshops for teachers of American history and civics" and "congressional academies for students of American history and civics to offer workshops for outstanding students of American history and civics."

Kyle Steward, a spokesman for Wicker's office, told WorldNetDaily his boss had not heard of GOA's concerns. Also, he said there are no "anti-gun" provisions in the curriculum, which has yet to be developed.

GOA officials, however, are concerned that such academies, if established, will continue what it perceives as an anti-gun bias in the public schools, and "will use anti-gun texts … that conform to the federal guidelines on teaching civics and history."

One such text, called "We the People," encourages students "to start questioning the wisdom of the Second Amendment, asking the student whether the right to keep and bear arms is still as 'important today' as it was in the 18th century, and to decide what 'limitations' should be placed on the right," GOA said.

"This kind of discussion treats the Second Amendment as though it were not protecting a God-given, individual right," said the group.

Government-mandated guidelines, GOA says, focus on issues such as multiculturalism and other ideology-driven curriculum with a focus on downplaying the importance of gun rights.

The academies also are a bad idea, says the group, because the federal government is already too involved in education.

"If kids are never taught there are limits to the federal government's power, then we shouldn't be surprised when tomorrow's leaders don't have problems passing gun control legislation," said the GAO letter.**

I don't know, I'd the gun-control lobby already controls our school system. Hell I got nothing but gun-control propaganda in my school.

"Remember kids, guns are bad, mmkay. Only bad people own guns, cause they're mostly redneck racist yokels who marry their cousins, and they're bad. Guns are bad because only bad people use them, and that's why they're bad. mmkay!"

You want to protect the CHILDREN, don't you? Sure you do! Just sign right here and ignore that cattle car pulling up in your driveway...

What slays me is that Little Susie Soccermom actually buys into this crap. How could someone be so stupid?!? (Yes, an insult, but a deserved one). Every single source of raw data and refined data supports the exact opposite of what the Treason Lobby alleges is true.

"Assault Weapons" do not exist. They are either full auto or not. If not, they are military-pattern rifles and pistols (personally, I laughed out loud when I heard one treasonous bastard describing an 'assault pistol', if you can believe that. I wouldn't assault ANYTHING with a pistol. I'd rather back way, way up and use a M1A or a G3 or FAL, unless I had a deathwish or some mental disease). The Treason Lobby has succeeded, though, in convincing Mr. & Mrs. (or is that Mizz?) John Q. Public (or is that Rashawnda Allah? I get confused.) that these are Bad Things and they need to go away, so the Bad Guys don't get them. Not addressing that Mr. Bad Guy will probably use a ballbat, knife, zip gun, bare hands or whatever to get what he wants doesn't seem to be relevant to these people. They are zealots. No amount of reasoning with them will be effective.

When I was in PLDC going through school and getting my ticket punched for promotion to Sergeant, we had to practice yelling at trees. Yes, trees. To practice how we address lower ranking enlisted men when they don't listen to anything but an increase in volume (Big Sarge is PISSED! Maybe I should not do what pissed him off in the first place?). THAT'S how I view these people. They listen to nothing except an increase in volume. Reasoning won't work. Critical thought and linear logic won't work. Only the threat of force (or threatening them with taking away their flatscreen TV so they cannot watch Maury Povich or the Big Game).

Yes that insult is deserved. These stupid bitches don't know :dung: about anything! Believe me I know, I have to live among them! NOOOOOOO!

Their ideas about gun control are formed mostly what they see on Oprah and Dr. Phil. I love it how on Dr. Phil they placed a gun(not able to fire) in a playroom filled with 5 year old boys and watched how the boys played with the gun. First off, what idiot places their gun in a playroom? Sorry Dr. Phil, we're not all Homer Simpsons, who hide their guns in the refrigerator.

"Oh Marge! What were the odds the boy would look in the vegatable cabinet?"

Geesh!

"Guns don't kill, the government does!" Dale Gribble, King of the Hill

My wife was watching some forensic show on TV a bit ago, some piece about the Columbine shooting a couple of years back.

First off, I think Columbine was a tragedy and, as a parent, my heart goes out to the families who lost a child. But, it was predictable given our present state of moral decay here in America.

Second, the forensic peice was actually a 'If you know of anyone who has a pistol that fits this description, call blah, blah, blah.." They want the American public to start ratting each other out because (this is the best part), they have NO CLUE who shot some bigwig ultra-left antigun Treason Lobby ADA lawyer up in Washington State and only have the projectiles that forensics recovered. They can tell what KIND of pistol it was, but not who fired it. (The ATF can't go snooping in who-bought-what-when records since a) they're not supposed to exist since SCOTUS ruled that any such list was Unconstitutional - yeah, right - and, b )if it DOES exist, they cannot admit to it or they'll get reamed. Even if they DID track down a subject using this allegedly phantom list, they couldn't use it in court. It would get tossed as soon as the defense attorney caught wind that they used an allegedly nonexistant unconstitutional list to find someone... ) This, too, was predictable. I do not condone what happened, but I could see this coming some time ago. If the Treason Lobby starts ratcheting up the pressure against the legitimate firearms owners and the Government plays ball, someone, somewhere isn't going to appreciate that very much and take matters into their own hands. Ratchet it way, way up, and lots of people aren't going to appreciate it.

Other than that, the piece was some heartstrings number that showed Mr. Ultra-Treason, Esq., in the best light possible (and, predictably, demonized firearms so much that you almost wanted to go burn down the local gunshop and roast marshmellows over the coals), repleat with the usual suspects from Hollywood, and sniffing coworkers and family members telling us all what a fine man he was, how strongly he believed in what he was doing, etc, etc (pardon the vomit, let me clean that up). I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I DO know that if you want to mess with people, stand on them, shred the Constitution, imprison them for previously legal activities (forever and ever, Amen), I would pick anyone OTHER than a large, well-armed group of people. (I need to make a name for myself so I can run for Governor in 5 years... who can I beat up on? Oh, howabout all these blue-collar white guys with GUNS? They're used to obeying the laws, no matter how ludicrous they may be.. I'll just start f*cking with them.) Not very smart for a Hey-Mom!-Look-at-ME-I-have-never-lost-a-case-and-look-at-all-my-hotshot-powerful-Hollywood-friends lawyer type. Too bad. I almost felt something for him as I took a drink of Warsteiner and went back to what I was doing.

Ausonius,

Yeah, that was Tom Wales up in Seattle back in October of 2001. Someone who didn't like him walked up to his basement window and put a magazine into him. Apparently, the guy had made a lot of enemies as a prosecutor, so they couldn't conclusively establish that he was killed for his antigun hysterics (though that didn't stop the gungrabbers from making that accusation). Apparently, the perp just walked up to his window, blasted Wales and calmly drove off. The FBI has no clue who did it, so they're rounding up all the Makraovs in the country that they can find that have replacement barrels, as this was gleaned from the spent slugs. Here's some articles on the subject.

MadScienceType,

Thanks, I only half heard it on TV before dismissing it. Whoever did it, if they didn't want to get caught, did it the right way.

They didn't tell anyone what they were going to do. Just thought it up and did it, then drove away and kept their mouth shut. Didn't say anything about anything and kept their heads about them. That shows a remarkable presence of mind and control over your emotions. I'd bet real money that that Makarov has been chopped up with a plasma cutter, dropped into a handy river in another state or been rebarreled by now. If it has ceased to exist, then all the perp needs to do is just stay quiet and Mr. Traitor, Esq, can RIP forever.

Apparently, the guy had made a lot of enemies as a prosecutor, so they couldn't conclusively establish that he was killed for his antigun hysterics (though that didn't stop the gungrabbers from making that accusation).

They never pass up an opportunity to hit us when we're down. I think if ET showed up tomorrow on a pink spaceship, the Treason Lobby would find a way to pin THAT on us too and round up every firearms they could (matter of fact, I can hear this already: "In the interests of interstellar peace and harmony, to preclude any opportunity for 'terrorists' from jeprodizing our future relations with the 'interstellar undocumented visitors', the UN has graciously began rounding up any and all firearms in the United States....)
