Great news for Fassbinder fans and for students of the 1950s German Wirtschaftswunder. Criterion is releasing all three parts of his *Bundesrepublik Deutschland * trilogy next month for the first time on DVD.
Rarely seen in the cinema after their original release and very hard to find on video, the three films, The Marriage of Maria Braun, Veronika Voss, and Lola, provide a unique commentary on Germany's metamorphosis from a world superpower to a materialistic client-state in the period from 1945 to 1960.
As an added treat, Maria Braun is played by Hanna Schygulla, one of the sexiest women alive.
