The Design in Water
Most of our planet is covered with water. Oceans and seas make up three fourths of the earth's surface while the land itself contains countless numbers of rivers and lakes. The snow and ice on the summits of lofty mountains is water in its frozen form. A substantial part of the earth's water is in the sky: every cloud contains thousands--sometimes millions-of tons of water in the form of vapor. From time to time, some of this water vapor turns into drops of liquid and falls to the ground: in other words, it rains. Even the air you're breathing now contains a certain amount of water vapor.

.....What's even more incredible is the design of a Mother's milk; the composition actually changes to conform with the changing nutritional requiremnts of the infant...

I wrote a sci-fi story once (which I sadly never completed) about an alien civilization discovering Earth, and their sheer amazement at our massive quantities of liquid water.
Fortunately they saw atmospheric oxygen as the lethal, corrosive contaminant that it is and didn't try to colonize. :D

Wintermute: "What a deeply beautiful and very funny .sig file, Drakmal. I presume it's your work, as I can't see the FedGov doing anything so poetic as setting aside a whole month for Water Appreciation, so as one water appreciator to another, thank you."
Yeah... I figured if blacks get a month, so should water--it does more for us than they do. :)
"I think you and I should do what we can to keep this thread active for the rest of the month."
Very well. I'm not big on poetry, but I can certainly contribute some pictures:

I think you and I should do what we can to keep this thread active for the rest of the month. Towards this end, I include the following Orphic Hymn, to Poseidon: OOH! I wanna help too!

Morons, et altera, attend:
The presumptuously imagined design of water does imply "God(s)".
[Implicitly assume "God" and you have self-deceptively proved "God" - wonder of wonders.]
On the other hand, the observed configuration of water is, as well, something at which to marvel.
So, make and enjoy water (a natural phenomenon) at every opportunity, Boys and Girls.

** I see you've changed your avatar back to that hideous spiny fish thing Drakmal.**
Too right, Gile. Doesn't it look like it's about to puff up suddenly and attack with its mighty spines?

**The Naiad was intimately connected to her body of water and her very existence seems to have depended on it. If a stream dried up, its Naiad expired. ** Hmm, no 'seasonal' naiads, or did they dry up and die with their streams, and then a new one was assigned/showed up/washed in when the rains returned? :P

Perhaps Naiads were partial to bodies of water that didn't easily dry in the summer. Or perhaps because of their influence, rivers and whatnot continued to flow despite the hot dry weather. ;)
Time for more pictures, but I'm working on something ...special for the end of the month.
Aside from beautiful oceans, waterfalls, and rivers, water is also the primary component in a lot of other splendid things in life, such as...
...delicious fruits, which typically range from 60-90% water:
...and beautiful women, who typically run around 70-75% water:

Pardon my absence; I've been unusually busy lately. But I'm never too busy to dig up some interesting pictures of an underappreciated form of water: clouds. :D
Here's an iridescent cloud. Iridescent clouds are formed from small water droplets of near-uniform size; when the sun is in the right position (usually below the horizon and diffused by higher, thicker clouds), these sparse clouds diffract the light almost uniformly, producing color bands. Much the same way an oil slick works.
This is a lenticular cloud, not a UFO. Lenticular clouds are formed by strong winds pushing clouds over mountains or large hills. The windflow develops a strong up-and-down wave motion on the downwind side of the mountain, and any clouds that go through this stream of wind are reshaped in the form of a lens (thus the name). Sometimes they even stack up on each other like pancakes!
These are noctilucent clouds. Noctilucent clouds form very high in the atmosphere (around 75-90km). The reason they glow is because, although it's twilight on the ground, it's still daytime at the altitude where the clouds are. They were fairly rare until about 50 years ago, for reasons not yet understood.
This last image is... well, a killer storm. At least one waterspout is visible, and there are several funnel clouds in the background reaching towards the ground. Tornados, as you all know ;), are created convectively, by strong up/down drafts created in a powerful thunderstorm. When these currents develop rotation, they develop into a funnel shape--which, if it hits the ground, becomes a tornado.

As Water Appreciation Month draws to a close, I notice that we've covered several major art forms in this thread: poetry, painting, photography, storytelling... and somehow we've forgotten music! Here are a couple of nice watery tunes to close the month out with, from the good people of Overclocked Remix:

"The Design" is obviously overwhelming... hold your breath... (don't you need air?)... however within a very narrow margin... the Design includes free choice, thanks to the fact that 'chance' is also included in the design... it's ying and yang... when God tried to create "others"... even He, I posit discovered something he didn't realize... they couldn't be Him... and still be "others"... thus was also born opposites... to accommodate that which wasn't One...or Him... OR no god, only the reality of opposites... hot/cold, high/low... good/evil... who cares?
I suspect the dopey bastard, God, actually exists... although he doesn't care all that much at this point about much... (it may be a mood?) ... If he knows anything, he knows even the totality is imperfect... at least here in our world... so there's no point claiming it's "perfect"... while we're HERE obviously imperfect, is perfect... then we die... let me know, if possible (and it's not) what happens next... Although, thanks be "to God" Avalanche... can instruct... that is to say she's my god, this evening...
"All doors open from the side we're on...unless one is ready to see the Almighty FACE to face... " (I'll pass...at this point. I'd rather see an Avalache...) But who is she looking for? No, wait, she's cool... I'm in error... just play'in... down...
Maybe I could become a rap artist... I kind of like them... I like the way you do d'hat right d'ere, right, d'ere...
