Hello, I know this is a long shot, but in my situation I can't be picky. I have been laid off since last November and have not been able to get a job yet. My unemployment benefits extension runs out in 3 weeks. I need a job right away. I live in the Boston area. I am sure as soon as the economy picks up, I'll be getting plenty of calls from recruiters, but I need to be able to survive till then. I worked in a software engineering firm, but will take any kind of job available. I have no relatives or anyone in a position to help in any way.

Please help.

Hello,

I'm sorry about your situation.

I am sure you can find a job at perhaps a less intellectually demanding field for the time being, you may though have to "dumb down" your resume so you don't seem overqualified. Check the personnels, internet job sites, government programs like CSET or other public job search facilities. Good luck!

Regards,

Ares

Aw, gee, why don't you just beg for money like the reft of them? Most of the spam of this sort I see offers a PO box or paypal ID to make "donations."

Rumblestrip, when a man faces hard times I see nothing wrong with grasping for any sign of help in getting a job. He didn't beg for donations and I hope that if you ever find yourself in a tough spot facing homelessness that someone offers you a job if you ask for one in a manner simelar to chap that opened this thread.

Ares advice is fairly sound.

You may have to take "whatever's out there" at the moment, even if it's detestable. That's what happened to several people I know. Another question that needs to be addressed is your willingness to relocate. Other people I know in the same position packed their bags and marched. Things have worked out for them. You may not be in that position, but from your post, we don't know.

Thanks for the advice. Thanks Triskelion, Ares and Roy for the kind words. I have been looking for other jobs doing whatever outside my field since the beginning, but have not succeeded yet. I need to find an interim job just to survive and only then I can plan a relocation. Around here the situation is really bad. I have never seen anything like this. During the recession of 1991, I lost my job too, but back then I was able to find a "survival" job right away that paid 400 a week. Now the situation is entirely different. There are no jobs period. When I said 'please help', what I meant was: can someone offer me a job, so that I can stay afloat.
