** Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the purpose of this site ?

The purpose of this site is to raise awareness among IT professionals of the threat posed to their careers from offshore outsourcing.

I also provide information and ideas on how IT professionals can further their personal development and career, as I believe that is the only effective response to rising global competition.

The site mission statement is best summed up as "Examining the effect of globalization on your career ... and what you can do about it."

The site will address other career related topics as necessary (for example the current economic downturn, etc.)

Who runs this site ?

This site was created by a programmer for programmers.

I launched this site because I was amazed to find many of my colleagues are blissfully unaware of the mass migration of technology jobs to overseas locations.

Do you really think my job is going to be outsourced to India ? (or China, or Russia, etc).

It depends. Not all software development jobs will be outsourced offshore, there will be jobs left in the United States. However, the competition for these positions will be fierce, only the most skilled and capable individuals will be considered. Are you in the top 30% of software developers ? If not, you may no longer be working in IT in the future and you might be taking a dramatic pay cut in the near future.

So when is this going to happen ?

It has been happening for years and the pace is accelarating. Browse through the Articles, News, Quotes of the Week, and Facts of the Week for proof.

Is this site racist against Indians ?

No, we are not encouraging racism against anyone. India was chosen because it is currently responsible for approximately 80% of offshore technology outsourcing. Other potential threats include Russia, China, Eastern Europe, etc.

**Can't we just form an IT union or abolish the H1-B program ? **

Neither will alleviate the problem. The only real solution is to realize your full potential and take your career seriously. You will have to provide enough value to your employer (or clients for the self employed) to justify your high wages (high when compared to offshore labor costs) **

** "But America's prowess has not gone unnoticed over the past several years, and now global competitors are seeking an increased share of this action. A recent ITAA study shows that many U.S. companies have already or will consider moving IT jobs offshore. This is the new global reality for U.S. IT companies and workers, and we must meet it with a new spirit of competitiveness. We win races by training harder and running faster, not by erecting barriers."

"ITAA is bringing together all stakeholders-IT companies, customers, educators, and government-to chart a positive path to maintain global leadership for the U.S. IT industry," Miller continued. "We firmly reject the voices of doom and gloom that are projecting the U.S. IT industry will soon go the way of the horse and buggy. Global trade is not a zero sum game, where every IT job created in another country means a loss of jobs in the U.S." **

Ah, yet another propoganda site (under the guise of being for American workers) erected by America's greedy globalists. So obvious one has to laugh. :P

The jobs may be moving there but they won't be staying there.Extremely high employee turnover rates makes this "cheap" labor extremely expensive. "High burnout dims Indian call centers" http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5061438.html
