This piece just epitomizes how slimy and disgusting our politicians are.

From today's Santa Rosa Press-Democrat:

... Recall is a powerful word for Gov. Gray Davis, who now is listening to words that are especially powerful in the Latino community: Driver's license. Faced with the political fight of his life, Davis has vowed to "in a heartbeat" sign a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses in California, reversing his position from a year ago when he vetoed similar legislation. He made last weekend's announcement before two groups of his core constituents -- at a Mexican American Political Association convention and a labor union barbecue. ...

DD Comment: actually there is some merit in the argument that illegals are going to drive anyway so they may as well be trained and tested. But the overriding counter-argument is that the driving license is a de facto national ID card and this trumps evrything else.

Pandering or corruption?

Is there a difference?

I disagree completely. If they drive w/o a license, they need to be arrested when they commit any traffic violation. Getting thrown in the slammer will prevent others from doing the same.

I don't care if they are piled up 20 high in the cell...that's not the taxpayer's fault. And if a business wants their cheap labor, they need to find transportation for them, arranged. If they can't, they shouldn't hire them. After all, if they have no driver's license, they probably don't have insurance either...a bigger problem.
