When I come here daily, there are several pages of new posts. More than anyone can hope to keep up with. And, probably enough to lose a few people who would prefer a BBS with a more moderate pace. That's too bad as I would like more people to be exposed to the views expressed here.
TD should start a brother BBS to relieve a bit of the crowding here while at the same time signaling the growth of traditional conservatism.
The new BBS should retain the same focus where people are free to support traditional conservatism without being banned or having their statements drowned in a flood of childish replies. But, the new BBS should have a bit different aesthetics and a few different catagories to give it some distinctiveness.
And, if someone is bugged by something petty or personal, instead of leaving altogether, they can jump to the other BBS.

I like OD the way it is, and I don't think there are too many new articles/posts here at all.
If somebody is bugged by something personal or petty they already have the choice to not read it, and to also not respond to it.
I don't see how creating another BBS would solve any problems, not that I see any that need to be resolved in the first place...

YOU should start our own BB if you want to go a different way. People from here may or may not go to your board as well, or in preference, -- but there is NO way Tex should mess with success!
You wouldn't be saying that "this board makes ME uncomfortable, and so to accommodate MY discomfort, the world should be changed," would you? :P

I was thinking of two boards that are very closely related, enough so that the users of either are very much aware of the users of the other. I cannot do this because any board I would start would be very separate.
I can use the controls at the top of the page, but the point isn't really me. As a practical matter, it's easier for two medium-size boards to gain new users than for one large board to gain new users.

I don't know about starting a new board, but I can think of two things that would make OD more readily readable as it grows, which I think would be preferable to fragmenting:
1: Flag-to's. Ie, if someone posts something they think you're interested in, they can flag it for you and it'll then show up towards the top of your "today's active threads" list.
2: An ignore list, that hides posts made by and threads started by somebody you don't want to hear from unless you request otherwise.

I like OD just the way it is.

** I was thinking of two boards that are very closely related, enough so that the users of either are very much aware of the users of the other. I cannot do this because any board I would start would be very separate. ** No, it doesn't seem to work that way -- I've been on two boards that 'split' to allow greater privacy for senior members -- and the 'junior' list (or a I sourly called it, steerage class list) ended up dead. (I mean like NO posts for a month!)
Most people don't have time to read their way through two versions of OD -- it's hard enough to get through one. I like OD -- I think Tex is doing miracles, and I like most of our members! :P

Tip of the day: In case anyone has not noticed it, those who don't like popup windows (My Assistant) can use the 'View New Posts' link at the top right to get a list of updated threads.
One suggestion I have is to make the forum more visible on the original dissent main page. I suspect many visitors to www.originaldissent.com leave without even noticing that the forum exists.
