She epitomizes everything that is wrong with American teenage girls today (not to mention the fact that she can't sing that good either; at least not as good as Christina Aguilera, who I'm no fan of either). :thd:
On a lighter note, I think at this point Britney's popularity is going downhill. With the whole "pop" music craze dying out, Spears' appeal isn't what it was when she first came onto the scene. If this decline continues, she'll soon be as forgotten as MC Hammer. :th:

Well, the Britney Spears effect has led to the result that the dress code for girls is now largely nudity. A school in Bremen made national news when girls were sent home because they dressed too sexy.

The current trends amongst the young un's are entirely girl-centered; the "girl" culture is cheesy, fake, and bizarre.
Have you ever seen young girls, probably still in grammar school wearing sweatpants, sweatshorts or shorts with catch-phrases written across the seat, like "Flirt" or "Cutie"?? I mean, these are like 2nd, 3rd graders here. Everything you see is very 70's retro to the point where a lot of it is pure tack.
It's bad enough I have to see Latin girls dressed like that, only they've got the flab to really fit in them.

Britney Spears has no talent and I see better looking girls walking down the street every day.
This whole oversexualization of young girls is very disturbing. However, according to the statistics, it is not tied to an increase in sexual activity among teenagers. That peaked around 1990. I remember in the early 90's, when I was in junior high school, some girls dressed in that "Kelly Bundy"(the daughter on the fox sitcom "Married with Children") spandex mini skirt-halter top-skin tight ripped up jeans-glam metal groupie style. In some ways that was worse than what I see now. These girls were like 11-14 years old and from upper middle class families. So I remind myself of that everytime I think the world is going to hell in a hand basket. There's always an ebb and flow. Teenage girls were dressingly relatively conservatively for the middle part of the 90's when I was in high school, much to my dismay at the time.

I personally don't give rat's ass about it, I just mock the media hype over it. The only time I became concerned over the subject was when the Church of England decided to make her a saint because of her supposed virginity around December of 2000. After that, my respect for that Church dropped to zero, and this recent election of a gay bishop further proves my negative attitudes towards the policies of that church! :thd:
This is a mockery of the Christian tradition of venerating saints(who actually do things special while doing the works of the Lord). The Catholic/Orthodox Churches would never do anything like this, and I also believe you have to be dead in order to be considered a saint in either church.
In fact the Orthodox Church often stands in staunch opposition to Rock/Pop music as nothing more than a corrupting social influence(which it certainly is!). They encourage Christians to listen to religious and/or classical music.

Yes, I agree. I always viewed the Church of England as a curiosity. The attendance in England is even lower than in Scandinavian countries. Not long ago this silly Church placed ads on billboards in England featuring Christ as a modern-day Che Guavara (nevermind that Che was a communist and hence an enemy of religion). Some Church bigwig was even quoted saying that the Church preferred to have Jesus portrayed as a masculine Latino, and not some wimpy WASP. Of course, and a part from the obvious and pathetic self-loathing present in that statement (something I'll leave for psychologists), both presentations are ahistorical and false.

In England, Anglican leaders are the same type of PC airheads as their US Episcopalian cousins. The last big defection (mainly to Catholicism), was over the ordination of Wimmin priests a few years ago.
