Whites apparently tip 15-20%, blacks about 10%. When I worked as a waiter in undergrad, this was quite obvious. I used to RUE the times I saw the hostess walking in a black family to my table. (I use the term "family" loosely, it was usually about 3 kids with a woman, and the guy with her had no ring on, but a nice ballcap)

From what friends and relatives who work--or have worked--as waiters, waitresses, or bartenders tell me, the answer is a resounding YES!

I pulled this from another disussion board. One of our colored friends went so far as to claim that since they've been slaves for "400 years", maybe whites should wait on them for free for a while.

Oh boo-hoo :crybaby: Yeah, and all Whites are millionaires. :rolleyes: If Blacks can afford to eat in the same restaurants as Whites, they should be able to tip the same. (And if not, they should buy a bucket of KFC and stay the hell home)

The prevaling mentality of blacks being waited upon by white table-servers is that 'bee-otch, you best be my waiter, my tackling dummy AND my poisonal asstray if you plans on getting a tip, Casper!', and then they leave seventy-five cents on the table after running up a forty-dollar tab.

10% from blacks? In what part of the country? Yes, I'll admit that for a time in college I worked as ... shudder ... a waiter. If blacks tipped at all, it was 3%, no joke. Generally, they didn't tip. (I can hear the jokes now, that it was my poor service, etc. :D ) The blacks and jewish customers were usually the biggest pains in the asses, changing orders, making silly demands, trying to find ways to get their meals "discounted." This was before I began to really take note of jewish behavior. The jews did generally tip 12 - 15% like most of the whites. I never had any jews or Japanese (overtly) try the old "chew and screw" or "dine n' dash" as I did every once in a while with just about every other ethnic group, though. The worst offenders in that category? Blacks and mexicans. I watched 'em like Hawks, because so many would try and book.

I believe it, absolutely. I've never worked as a waiter, but I have had jobs invlolving contact with black customers. The DO seem to expect more, especially from White employees. They also tend to complain more (and about more ridiculous, even non-existant things) and seem to want to get something for nothing more often than any other group, with hispanics being a close second.

As one waited tables both through college and professional school, I can attest to the general poor tipping habits of blacks. Many of my fellow servers actually said that they had always been opposed to racism and prejudice until they started waiting tables. However, in fairness, probably a fourth of my black tables tipped normally, and I always gave the same quality of service to anyone, black or white; it would have been foolish to deliberately give poor service to blacks, assuming a poor tip- what if the black table was among the 25% that would tip normally? No sense in jeoparidizing even the possibility of a good tip just to be an ass.
The big difference, though that I noticed between black customers and white customers in general was that with whites, you could generally predict, just based on appearance, who would tip and who would not. Well-dressed, affluent, whites of middle class and up were almost guaranteed to tip properly; the white riffraff was almost guaranteed not to. Whereas, with blacks, an affluent black table would be just as likely to leave 10% or less as a ghetto family.

If they can't afford to tip, they shouldn't be eating there. I think the 10% rate is too high, considering the large number of Negroes who won't leave any tip at all. Anyone who works in the food bussiness will tell you, "I'm not a racist, but I wish blacks wouldn't come here!"
A friend of mine owns a Pizza shop and the delivery boys fight over who gets the tickets for white areas, because they know that when they deliver to a Negro they get a big fat nothing.
Negroe customers make life miserable for any food bussiness. When I worked in a fast food joint in High School, it was always some jive talking, greasy African hair style wearing Negro who was causing trouble.

Quite simply, people that can't afford the tip cannot afford the meal. I'm a recent grad, and I didn't eat out very often in college b/c I could not afford it.
If you have $50 for a meal, then the food should be $40-42 of that total. Fast food doesn't charge tips, eat there if you don't want to tip.
Finally, waiters only get paid about $2/hr in many restaurants. Tips are their livelihood. Stiffing a waiter who serves you is behavior of a low form of scum.
