Does anybody have any thoughts about the recent death of Barry White? Personally I couldn't care less, since he'll no longer do those stupid Arby's commercials. I hate his music and found his voice annoying.

Anybody else wish to share their thoughts?

"Oh baby lets get it on, OH YEAH!"

I kinda liked Barry, to be honest. I mean, not enough to buy any of his records or anything, but I generally found him inoffensive & entertaining.

Uh, never met the man (although I did have the opportunity).

Quite frankly, he had no voice at all (except to bull frog his way through his one octave song range); and, his tempi were always too slow for dancing to: Ultimate Sin in any disco. :(

He put out some very good music during his heyday, especially "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Baby" and "Love's Theme" (credited as The Love Unlimited Orchestra).

He had a stroke recently, and he was having major problems with his weight. Just like Luther Vandross.

Barry was lots of fun and a very good businesman. He stayed out of the limelight his first few years and was the one that set up studio acts like Love Unlimited. When he made his move as lead, it was half joke in case it bombed.

Of course the joke worked and Barry's gamble paid off. Like Sonny Bono, White was in on the joke. He liked to do little gags on his own reputation, such as the hilarious duet he did with Edie Brickell on her "Picture Perfect Morning" album. He was an okay guy who brough a sort of goofy and harmless attitude to public life and I'll miss him.

I never bought any of his stuff either but I got the joke. RIP Barry.

We could use more negroes like him in music, and less like Snoop Dogg.

He was funny in that Simpsons episode.

"Barney Miller" castmember (Deitrich) and comedian Steve Landesberg (IP, I assume) did a dead-on immitation of Barry White.

"Ooooo - baby, pour some maple syrup on me, baby . . . "

It was a scream.

**"I looove the sexy slither of a lady snake..." **

I remember watching something on the History channel about Voodoo, and how snakes are highly worshipped among African peoples(kinda like how Hindus worship Cows). Either that or Barry was talking about a possible fetish for female snakes.

Hey, Big Barry wasn't wailing about "... killin' whitey," at least not in public. Harmless pop music. And he was funny on The Simpsons. They kept running clips from that show on the local news outlets.

I recall "Iron Mike" Tyson recommending Barry White records for getting girls in the proper frame of mind.

'Course, looks like he didn't always follow his own advice!

I wouldn't want to live in a neighborhood full of "decent negroes", but you have to admit: these days, 'relatively inoffensive' is high praise for just about any mass media figure.

I realy don't need any of them be they Barry White, Nat-king (kong) cole, Sideny Portier or Denzel Washingtons. **

:D Nah, Leland. As nice as an individual black could be, they have ... relatives :D . But ... when you consider the state of "popular" music today, White doesn't match up with today's "superstars" :dung: .
