Hello,

Here is a suggestion:

Keep one section called "Science and Technology" and another called "History." You can then have yet another completely separate section called "Privacy, Network Security & Encryption: Personal computer security and privacy." What do you think?

Combining history and science seems rather confusing and irritating, they are two completely different subjects.

Ares

Ares,

Perhaps you should have made your suggestion to the administrator away from others on the board. But, then again, perhaps you were thinking that others may also have had suggestions they could have contributed. But, you know how it goes.

I am assuming that Texas Dissident welcomes suggestions in the "Members Micellaneous" section. Isn't that what this privileged section is for?

I agree with this suggestion.

I would think so. However, I read another post about this post indicating that you were trying to take over. After reading the above post, I didn't think that at all. But, there seems to be a few testy critters in OD.

Since I don't legally own OD, how can I take it over? I would first have to ask Texas to legally transfer this copyrighted website over to me. But, I am not planning to do this, I am quite satisfied not being the legal owner of OD. Does this clarify the situation?

I don't think Tex minds at all, I find him always glad for suggestions and help. The categories he says are not fixed in stone or even hard dirt really. They've been changed a number of times before in response to suggestions.

Right now of course we're waiting on a major software upgrade, so I don't think we'll be able to make any changes now, but down the road, I think we'd be interested in any suggestions on improving categories. Categories themselves are somewhat arbitrary , but for a forum I think they help define what topics are most directly relevant to its purpose and function.

Here and at Liberty Forum, most threads actually seem to occur in two main areas, "current events" and "foreign affairs". While interesting, such categorizations usually don't really describe the special purpose forum adminstrators usually have in foremost in mind in starting these types of forums. One can read about current events or international affairs almost anywhere, whereas there a number of things we find and discuss on these forums its difficult to find elsewhere.
