Immortality Becomes Real 07/02/2003 17:50 Colonies of immortals may appear already in 50 years

Crionika is a science that studies the influence of cold on the human body, which allegedly allows to extend the life-span. Lyudmila Obukhova from the Institute of Biochemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that Russian scientists had managed to achieve certain progress in the field. "Experiments to reduce the human body temperature bring good results. A couple of degrees off can help an individual live for 120 or 150 years more. If is it possible to reduce the body temperature by two more degrees, we would achieve the biblical result - 700 or even 800 years of living! However, experiments are just getting started, so it is too early to announce it to the whole world that we have conquered death," Lyudmila said.

I'll be 72 next month, and FWIW, old age isn't all that good, so why bother?

Fortunately, I still have my marbles, but inevitably, they will succomb to age. The body wears out, and I really don't think lowering temperature will help much. Gout, caused by Uric Acid, is a constant nagging problem.

Thanks to this computer, I can still enjoy a lot of life, but others my age who can't be bothered pine away looking for ways to improve their lives, and end up very frustrated old farts.

Golf, sex, enjoyment of physical activities such as dancing, travel, etc. are gone. Even dining isn't what it used to be. I settle for fine cigars and Martini's.

My heart, lungs, circulatory system, etc. are all in top shape, but adjustments in lifestyle must be made to make the most of the days left me. FWIW, my normal temperature is 97.4, well below the 98.6 standard. Maybe this has something to do with it.

Little things matter. In my case, the enjoyment of watching our 6 grown kids is what keeps me ticking. I married a beautiful woman, and we have beautiful kids.

Last week, with the help of miserable son #5, Timothy, 6' and 200 pounds of handsome Irishman, we were able to go to UT to see our 18 year old grandaughter marry a nice young man, well built, blue eyes, blonde hair and fair complected fellow. Our adorable 4 year old grandaughter was Flower Girl, and the ringbearer was our sturdy 6 year old grandson. The bridal bouquet was caught by our drop dead gorgeous 19 year old blonde grandaughter.

The event was held in Snowbird Lodge, a magnificent place in the Wasach mountains. My daughters and grandaughters were around me constantly, always saying "How are you, Grandpa?" Can I get you another drink, Grandpa?"

Our sons looked great. It was a black tie affair, and one of the happier events in my old age. They are all handsome and prospering and I was very proud of them. They are a tight group, held together by strong family bonds, which I attribute to the discipline I exercised in raising them. Five of the 6 made it, the youngest could not make it due to a move, he just got his MBA from Wharton.

Be fruitful, and multiply is my advice to you younger men. It beats the Hell out of Social Security.

God Bless all here.
