U.S. official upbeat on migration pact with Mexico Reuters, June 30, 2003 http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/politics/po...mmigration.html
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- U.S. Department of Homeland Security head Tom Ridge said Monday Mexico's collaboration with Washington on drugs, terrorism and other issues could pave the way for talks on a migration pact to re-start soon.
A migration pact is a top priority for the Vicente Fox administration in Mexico, but the United States put talks for a deal on the backburner after the Sept. 11 attacks.
But talking to Hispanic journalists, Ridge said talks could take place ``in the near future'' as the two countries successfully work together to make more secure the common border, one of the busiest in the world.
Get ready, here they come!
