NASA had a hypersonic aircraft project called the X-43. When it was scrapped a few years ago it was speculated that it had become a 'black project'. The last black project to come into the public spotlight I believe was the blackbird spyplane, and that was decades ago. Some pretty sophisticated stuff must have been developed since.
