Giuliani Wants Larger 9-11 Memorial NewsMax.com Wires Friday, June 27, 2003 NEW YORK -- Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is lobbying for a larger Ground Zero memorial and less commercialization.

The New York Daily News says Giuliani wants to nearly double the size of the planned Ground Zero memorial, saying the "sacred ground" within the site's retaining walls -- about 9 acres -- should be preserved to honor those killed on Sept. 11, 2001.

The former mayor, in a video being presented to Congress by a coalition of victims' families, says: "If it takes federal legislation to preserve it, then that's what should happen."

He says the area where the twin towers, 6 World Trade Center and the Marriott hotel stood should be set aside for a memorial, not for commercialization. It was in that area where most of the nearly 2,800 victims' remains were recovered.

Giuliani adds: "Forty, 50, 60 years from now, people are going to be very, very annoyed with us if we don't handle it correctly.
