Memoir Describes Revenge for Rosenbergs' Son

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Professionally adrift at 41, Robert Meeropol woke up in the middle of the night with an idea that would ultimately bring him the "sweetest revenge" for what he believes was the U.S. government's wrongful execution of his parents.
Youngest son of American communists Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who were sent to the electric chair in the anti-communist McCarthy era, Meeropol describes the moment in a memoir to be published on June 19, the 50th anniversary of the executions.
"An Execution in the Family, One Son's Journey" (St. Martin's Press) tells how he survived the loss of his parents at age 6 and carved out his own identity as a left-wing activist in the shadow of one of the most hotly debated chapters in U.S. political history.
The establishment of the Rosenberg Fund for Children in 1990 gave professional and emotional focus to Meeropol, who has used his adoptive name since childhood. Until then, he had a self-described "varied and checkered career" as student, anthropologist, child-care center co-founder and lawyer.
"I snapped awake in bed at 4 a.m. knowing the mission of my foundation," Meeropol, 56, writes of his April 1989 revelation. "It would help kids who are experiencing the same nightmare my brother and I experienced as children."
GRANTS
The foundation has provided grants for children of cash-strapped activists to supplement their education or attend summer camp. Among the beneficiaries are children of American Indian Movement members, Puerto Rican nationalists, the Black Panthers revolutionary party, white left-wing revolutionaries, environmental and union activists and antiwar protesters.
Meeropol writes that "regardless of political and tactical differences we may have with these activist parents ... their children are completely innocent."
His parents were tried in 1951 and executed two years later on June 19, 1953, for allegedly helping the Soviet Union during World War II in its race to make the atom bomb.
The U.S. government used what was later revealed as perjured testimony. The sentencing judge led the public to believe the couple was executed for giving Moscow the bomb when the actual charge was conspiracy to commit espionage.
Rosenberg supporters denounced the trial as a frame-up amid anti-communist hysteria and Cold War fear.
The couple left behind two boys, Robert, 6, and Michael, 10. They were adopted and raised by former communists Abel and Anne Meeropol. Michael, now 60, is an economics professor.
In the memoir's final chapter, "Constructive Revenge," Meeropol recalls telling a group of foundation children he no longer believed a government apology would be enough.
"Now I wanted to play a role in defeating the destructive social forces that killed my parents and the Rosenberg Fund for Children was a vehicle for doing this.
"That's all I told them ... I didn't say that I viewed facilitating all the good work this incredibly diverse, talented and energetic group of young people would accomplish as my sweetest revenge. I think they understood."
NUANCED VIEW
In a telephone interview from his Easthampton, Massachusetts, office about his memoir, Meeropol said that after years of believing both his parents were innocent, he has arrived at a more complex, nuanced view.
"My mother was not a spy of any sort but I am agnostic about whether my father engaged in some other nonatomic spying during World War II," he told Reuters.
As he worked on the book, it became important to clarify his feelings about his parents "considering the possibility that my father did something and that my mother supported what he did even though she didn't actively participate." ...
Ah, ain't self deception grand? Of course, this goes way beyond that ... but why go on?

Roy, this book will obviously be #1, numero uno, numero une, on The New York Times Bestseller list, even if it only sells 10 books.
The fact that 2 jews were executed in this country for treason is testimony to how low we have sunk in this country, 2003 Amerikwa. It is totally, undoubtedly, IMPOSSIBLE that that same sentence would ever be handed down to any jew today....even if they openly sold an A-bomb to Saddam! Heck, NO jew is prosecuted on anything anymore, period!!

Xmetalhead, you're probably right about the spot that this piece of pornography will occupy on the bestseller's list. I've often wondered about the veracity of those lists. You can be pretty sure that the numbers are fudged, bought, whatever. It's a fact that for years in Hollywood, certain television shows were claimed to have higher Neilsen ratings than they actually received. Years ago, I was told by a guy from NBC that for years "The Jeffersons" and "Good Times" received fake ratings publically in order to have some black sitcoms on the air. The advertisers either bit the bullet, or bought the stories they were fed on ratings (or were in on it, and paid less accordingly). Same guy also said the ratings for Cosby were inflated through the mid 80's for the same reason. I have no reason to doubt it. The reasons behind these shenanigans are probably more nefarious than just trying to keep some black shows on the air. (The guy that told me this story was jewish, by the way) Today, it's doubtful that such juggling still goes on. Brainwashing has enough hold on the psyche of many white Americans.
So ... the same goes for publshing. Look at all the jewish "novelists" that peddle shi*. Utter crap. Yet, they are always soaring to #1, or in the top ten. Maybe they are, because there isn't much competition from "the outside". Never mind the generally favorable reviews jewish authors enjoy from jewish owned newspapers, etc. Of course, there are gentile writers making a living, and they are semitically correct, yes sir!
It's a shame that paper is wasted on a piece of crap like jr. Rosenberg's book. As NB said in another thread, it's too bad the little bastard wasn't in mom's lap when they threw the switch.
In today's Amerikwa, if a jew sold an A-bomb to an enemy of America, the story would be twisted into a tale of the jew being a hero, fighting oppression and intolerance, actually doing the best thing for the "country he loves". We know which country they really love.
