Latinos come out for Reza
By Helen Gao Staff Writer
Calling his selection "an insult bordering on racism," a group of Latino activists on Tuesday denounced Superintendent Roy Romer's appointment of Sue Shannon to oversee public schools in the heavily Latino Northeast San Fernando Valley.
Sporting green signs that read "Romer hear us" and "Our community demands to be heard," dozens of speakers urged the superintendent to appoint Maria Reza, assistant superintendent of student health and human services, to fill the local District B superintendent post.
"We just know we have an eminently qualified Latina, but she is not being considered in a district that is 85 percent Latino. We see it as an act of disrespect," said Xavier Flores, president of the Mexican American Political Association.
The school board will vote on the ratification of Shannon's appointment in a closed-door meeting June 17.

Sure just appointing a white to a public service post, even one as inept as the LAUSD is racist. Else where in this article they mention that the shcool district is 85% "Hispanic", they don't say, however, how many are citizens or even legally in the country. Not many I'd bet.
