** Feds aim to teach Hispanic workers about safety, rights By Chris Gosier, Daily Record
Faced with rising death rates for Hispanics in the construction industry, the federal government is launching a safety campaign to educate the workers about their rights and overcome the language barriers that can keep them from taking proper precautions.
For white or black construction workers, the death rate is flat or declining, suggesting that Hispanics face greater risks, said Kris Hoffman, a compliance assistance specialist in the Parsippany office of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
A significant number of immigrant workers gravitate toward construction jobs, and many come from countries where poor worker protection may have been the norm, he said.
Moreover, he said, undocumented workers often are less inclined to complain about anything, and may not try to exercise their rights.
**
This is a familiar refrain. Illegals break the law sneaking into the country, break another law by using bogus or stolen ID to apply for a Job, then break another law by stealing a construction job from a citizen. The response of our elected officals?
Spend your tax monies to provide them some free training on safety and their "RIGHTS".

Yeah I'm tired of this :dung: too.
"Safety lesson numero uno: make sure el thumbo is out of way when you hammero el nailo. Comprende, Pedro?"

You need to see these "workers" in action in the CA construction industry. It must be quite a struggle to find one with two brain cells to rub together. The illegals and their willingness to work for low low low wages (supplemented by WIC, Welfare, Food Stamps, etc) have knocked whites and the few blacks that were involved out of the construction business in CA. This is primarily :dung: dreamed up to help them learn a bit more English, so that the jaggoff contractors that hire them can communicate with them more easily, and secondarily to cut down on state funded trips to the emergency room.

I don't buy the bit about it being a way to teach them English either. There are plenty of job ads where they specify that the companies are looking for a Spanish-speaking foreman... or when they are looking for workers, the ad often includes that all too familliar line se habla espanol.
The more accomidations we make for them, the less they have to adapt. Why is that such a difficult thing for so many people go understand?

Thus, "cheap" labor is only so for the direct employer, with the taxpayer subsidizing the rest of Manuel and brood's standard of living (as repellent as it might be to white Americans). Meanwhile, the employer is free to charge nearly the same amount he would if he actually employed natives and pockets the difference as pure profit. Great. :thd:
