Analysis: Jews flooding into Germany By Uwe Siemon-Netto UPI Religion Editor Published 6/5/2003 5:26 PM View printer-friendly version
WASHINGTON, June 5 (UPI) -- The turbulent relationship between Jews and Germany is taking yet another stunning turn. Seventy years after Hitler's ascendance to power and 60 years after the Holocaust, more Jews are flooding into Germany than into any other country, Israel included.
This makes Germany the one nation with the fastest-growing Jewish community in the world. Ironically, one reason for this state of affairs is the anti-Semitism in their countries of origin, chiefly successor states of the former Soviet Union, Julius H. Schoeps, head of the Moses Mendelssohn Center for European-Jewish Studies in Potsdam, told United Press International Thursday.
"Of course there are other reasons as well, such as economic considerations and the chance to give their children a better education," Schoeps allowed. "Moreover, they see Germany as a 'safe country.'"
As a result of this accelerating migration, the Jewish population in Germany has swollen from 33,000 in 1990, the year of that nation's reunification, to 200,000 today, according to Schoeps. Before World War II more than half a million Jews lived in that country. At the end of the war there were only 15,000 left.
But in 2002, 19,262 Jews from the former Soviet Commonwealth of Independent States settled in Germany, compared with 18,878 who went to Israel and fewer than 10,000 who were admitted into the United States. German consulates in CIS cities report that 70,000 more Jews have already applied for resettlement visas. In addition, thousands of Israelis, whose parents had fled to Palestine in the Nazi years, are now claiming German passports to which they are entitled by German law.
"Thanks to these developments I believe there is a good chance for the emergence of a new German Jewry," said Schoeps, a historian who was born in World War II in Stockholm, where his parents had found exile. "I absolutely welcome this," Rabbi Carl Feit, a Talmudic scholar and cancer researcher at New York's Yeshiva University, told UPI in an interview.
Feit interpreted the Jews' return to Germany as "a fulfillment of a biblical spiritual theme -- the rebirth and rejuvenation for which there are many examples in history, where Jewish people in one part of the world or another have seemed to have been eclipsed only to reappear against all odds and common expectations."
Feit added, "The biblical paradigm for this rebirth was the return of the Jews to Israel" from the Babylonian captivity in 516 B.C.
There are many ironies in this sudden rejuvenation of Ashkenazic Judaism. The very word, Ashkenaz, which defines German and Eastern European Jews, is the Hebrew term for Germany. This is so, explained Feit, "because the entire Jewish culture in Eastern Europe derives from Jewish communities that lived in three German cities along the Rhine more than 900 years ago."
"The German and Jewish cultures used to fertilize each other," Feit went on. Yiddish, the idiom spoken by 12 million Jews up until World War II, is essentially a medieval German dialect. The two languages are so close that Arnold Beichman, the New York-born writer and political scientist, often quips, "I like to speak German because it is just Yiddish with a better accent."
According to Feit, Yiddish, too, is currently undergoing rejuvenation after decades of decline. This is to some extent also true in Germany, where the ultra-orthodox Lubavichers, coming primarily from New York and London, are doing mission among the mostly secularized Russian-speaking immigrants, most of whom "don't even know the difference between a synagogue and a church," Schoeps said.
The Yiddish-speaking Lubavichers are a Hassidic sect. In their effort to bring immigrants from Eastern Europe to faith, they compete with assorted other religious movements, including Messianic Jews.
Only about 60,000 of the 175,000 Jewish immigrants in Germany are already registered with any of the 84 synagogue congregations, most of which have sprung up in the past decade, Schoeps related. "In some eastern German cities, such as Potsdam, Halle and Rostock, our congregations are now 100 percent Russian-speaking," he said.
Do they fear that anti-Semitism in Germany might once again be on the rise? "They are not really worried," replied Schoeps, who attributed the spate of racist outrages in the early 1990s primarily to hooligans raised without any values in eastern Germany's gray Moscow-style housing estates.
As for the rest of the population, "there are now between 200,000 and 300,000 Russians in Berlin alone, and Germans don't know and don't really care who among them is Jewish and who is not."
But there is another irony in this influx of Jews from the East: Although most are highly educated -- Schoeps described the quintessential immigrant as a mathematician from, say, St. Petersburg -- they cost the German taxpayer money. "Between 60 and 70 percent of them are on welfare because they cannot find work. They don't speak German yet, and their Soviet diplomas are not recognized by Germany."
There are now programs to retrain them. "We have developed projects to turn mathematicians into computer specialists, for example," said Schoeps. But that's only one side. The other side is that now there is a sudden need for teachers, social workers, rabbis and cantors. At Potsdam University, of which Schoeps' center is part, a rabbinical seminary -- the Abraham Geiger Kolleg --has been created.
What will Germany's new Jewish culture look like? Before Hitler, German Jews were among the most assimilated in Europe; culturally they were thoroughly German. Berlin was the first city in Europe with a Jewish high school, created in 1778 along the traditional German "Gymnasium" lines at the instigation of Moses Mendelssohn, the great Jewish Enlightenment philosopher.
This school was closed in 1942 and did not reopen until 1993, when the sudden influx of Jews from the East commenced. But then most of its students and faculty were gentiles, and the Hebrew teacher was a Protestant pastor.
Reflecting on the rich cultural history of Jews in Germany, which this school represents, Schoeps mused, "The intellectual heritage of German Jews included Goethe, Friedrich Schiller and Heinrich Heine, while this new Jewish community is at home with Tolstoy and Gogol."
But then, what about the next generation of German Jews? "Probably Goethe, Schiller and Heine, plus Gogol and Tolstoy -- not a bad prospect, don't you think?"

Many of these Jewish immigrants, are, like many of the immigrants at Brighton Beach, simply the "refuse" of the former Soviet Union (most of the intellctuals go to Israel or the US). Many are involved in organized crime and such delightful business as narcotics trafficking. I've met quite a few Germans witha grudge against Russians, not because of WWII, but because of the sometimes outrageous behavior of modern-day "Russian" immigrants in Germany.

Right "Jiddish is just a bastardized German, Polish, Hebrew, the real language of the jew".

There are two million immigrants from the former USSR. Welfare dependence is far spread. There are 200,000 retirees who live again in Russia but take German payments.

I have mentioned it before on this board. Most jews are just semitic cut throats. It is the ashkenaz that is the real dangerous fellow.

The Khasar jews called the German jews "Jeckles", because they wore Jackets (=Jacken) in contrast to the dark coats of the other jews. They are the ones who appeared most European.
The German jews who immigrated to New York exploited the Polish Galician jews and called them Jews, as their names often ended with isky.
I see a nation that has become fat and pathetic, a zombie nation. Good that the pressure cooker gets really hot. I have said before, that America, Russia or Israel is not the Khasar's homeland. I will watch closely. It will be interesting. There is hardly any other nation on earth that regards rules, the law, restrictions, order, conventions, honesty, principles so extremely important than this county. On a per capita base, Germany has more lawyers than any other nation in Europe. 60% of the tax code literature alone is published in German on a worldwide scale. This is not a fertile soil for swindlers. The only question I have, how long will it take until the kettle boils over all over again?

Better talk about Thomas Mann, Bert Brecht and Biermann, who all supported the bloody suppression of the worker's revolt against communist rule on 17th June 1953 that was met with Soviet tanks. Or how about Egon Krenz, the last secretary general and party head of the socialist unity party in eastern Germany in the last months before the fall of the wall, who supported the massacre at the place of heavenly peace in Pejing. And Kurt Tucholsky is my favorate, as he allowed a flow of thought about the pleasent idea of exterminating the German bourgeousie.
Mr. Ron Sommer, the guy who wrecked the German Telecom with about 50 billion marks misinvestment into jewish Voicestream and got several million as a retirement fund once he was forced out of his job is another role model.
What about Carl Schulz, a marxist revolutionary who had to immigrate to America and wrote the Emancipation Proclamation by that the negro was set free. Do you really believe that the Yankee trashed the American Republic? Hahaha. Only a Southern Redneck believes so. Remember folks, there was a "failed" revolution in Germany in 1848. America the dumb let the rabble in, and because there is a reason why I put failed into quotation marks, the revolution set in in 1860 when Lincoln got elected, no not by New England but by the Mid West. Civil War = German Jewish Marxist Revolution. Mr. Lincoln himself moved to New York to welcome the German newcomers, who more than any other group in America put on the Union uniform. Well, I am going far adrift now. This is a topic for another thread. But the Dixie crowd has to direct their anger at someone else than the Yankees.

Regardless of how "conservative" the Republican Party may or may not be, it is easy to forget that there was a time when the Party was far from conservative, that in the early days of the party, socialists and outright communists played an active role. In fact, it can and will be argued here that the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 was made possible by communists and socialists, most of them German immigrants in the Midwest, and indeed the prosecution of the War depended in large part on those same alien people. Consider, for example, the following. **
The Krauts can not be blamed completely, as back then they only made a small portion of the US population, not the 1/3 of the whites as they represend today according to 1990 census data.
But my personal theory is that the American Revolution 1776 was just an aftershock of the Cromwell Revolution, as the Puritans, and I guess Cromwell was one of them, did not succeed to turn Britain into the society they wanted, thus alienation between the crown and the colonies was preprogrammed when the first settlers reached America. America was the dumping ground of Britains troublemakers, before it was lost and Australia was founded as an alternative outpost. What Britain and other nations of Europe that were hit by the Reformation exported in the 17th and 18th century, primarily religious dissidents, Germany exported to America in the 19th century, largely egalitarian, socialist and democratic elements that were dissatified with the aristocratic society at home. This pushed Germany to the right in the following years, while America turned to the left. The abolution movement got overwhelming support from the Germans and started in Germantown Philadelphia. The Republican Party was founded by Germans as far as I know. Its mascot, the elephant, was invented by a German.
My oppinion about America is that it was the product of Europe's Reformation. As the Catholic Church was fighting that new faith (80 year long war between Catholic Spain and Calvinist Holland, 30 year war between Northern and Southern Germany, France and Sweden were involved in that conflict as well as Poland, the civil war in England, the Swiss resistence towards the Catholic Habsburgs, the Edict of Neants, in which the Hugonots lost their religious freedom etc. ) hundreds of thousands moved to the new world. The new world was less of a reflection of Britain, but a reflection of protestent Europe (Paul Revere was a French Hugonot, Peter Minuit, the founder of New York a German in Dutch service). These settlers envisioned a new Jerusalem, a nation based on a renewed Christian faith. George Washington, Jefferson and company were not of these stock but just landed gentry from Britain who just looked for new economic opportunities. They weakened that Christian vision. The Germans of the 19th centuries in contrast to the ones who came one or two hundred years earlier were largely secular and pushed America further from its Christian foundation. The Jewish influx from 1880 on accelerated that process.
One might say that America changed its identity due to various waves of immigrants. 1500-1640 Fur traders, conquistadores and adventurers 1640-1848 Religious refuge of protestant Christians 1848-1890 Secular settlers longing for land (homestead act) and utopians finding the land that promised the freedom that the failed revolutions of central Europe could not deliver 1890-1920 the sewers of the ghettos and stedtles came to America, America caugth the virus. 1920-1960 Maybe the best times America ever had, and the lowest levels of immigration (isn't immigration supposed to culturally enrich a nation) 1960-2000 Turd world dumping ground 2000-? Actually this is an old & well-documented theory. But not "Germans", the Rothschilds.
For evidence check out The Unseen Hand by A. Ralph Epperson. The book was published by the old John Birch Society, but Epperson was not a crank. He says the American "Civil War" started in 1837 when Rothschild agent August Belmont arrived in America to take advantage of the economic panic.
The trouble here is that none of this is part of "official" history. So some writers get creative and throw in the Freemasons and whatever else. Better to start with someone like Epperson and do the rest on your own.

Yeah, August Belmont was an "agent" of the Rothschilds. His real name was August Schoenberg. I won't go into his whole story here, but the Rothschilds played a big part in the pushing the war, and creating problems for the South. Belmont would tell the bankers in England and France to support the Union war effort by buying government bonds. At the same time, in true Ashkenazi style, Belmont was buying up the bonds of the South at "discount rates", speculating that the South would have to honor them, in full, once the war ended.
The Chicago Tribune in 1863 launched a tirade against "... Belmont, the Rothschilds, and the whole tribe of Jews, who have been buying up Confederate bonds." Epperson has good info on this, as does Rule By Secrecy (Jim Marrs). Worth a look.

The article I posted was biased, no question. It was the homestead act that lured most of the Germans, not political issues. That's why they settled primarily in the Midwest, the Great Plains and the Oregon. Just food for thought.
Well, this thread is losing direction. But I just want to express my thoughts on the question how far a Southern victory had put America off the road to decay. Many say that America would be better off today if the South had won, as the Northern victory brought America into the grip of the Oligarchs.
Well I will list my pros and cons
Pro South: -The ethnic stock of the South might be more representative of the Old Stock America than the multiethnic North -The South put more resistence against the mixing of the races than the North -The South embodies the legacy of the Constitution more firmly than the North -The KKK as many White nationalist movements are from the South
Contra South: -Favoured Colored immigration of slaves instead of labour immigration from Europe as the North did (Maybe the share of blacks might be higher today in case of a Southern victory) -The South was an agrarian society and hindered America's industrialisation -New Orleans was an adversary of New York as a potential immigration port, maybe a Southern victory had slowed down the settlement of the West? -Britain financed the South in order to weaken America, Prussia the North in order to keep America powerful enough as a counterbalance to Britain (I am not aware of jewish involvement, that might even put it into a different perspective). A weakened or broken up America might have fallen pray to foreign hostile powers. -The South kept most Whites in poverty in order to maintain a social order based on the plantage aristocracy -Southern politicians like Johnson, Clinton and Carter are no better than the NE elite
As you see there are more cons than pros in my list, but maybe someone wants to object.
