An El Monte gang leader who killed three teenagers and dumped their bodies after they refused to join his group was sentenced to death today after laughing at the victims' families and smirking at the judge.
"Quite frankly, I think Mr. Flores does fall into the category of the worst of the worst," said Judge Ingrid Uhler as she sentenced Alfred Flores III, 23. She said it was difficult to comfort the three Rialto area families, but assured them justice would be served.
Before his sentencing, friends and family of the victims spoke to the court. At one point, Flores laughed when Alejandra Torres, sister of Ricardo Torres, who was shot to death, said she hoped he would get the death penalty.
"Laugh all you want; I hate you. We hate you," she said, apparently referring to other family members. Outside the courtroom, Torres' father, Carlos, added: "My son will not return. It (the sentence) won't change anything."
