A sad announcement:

May 1, 2003

Dear Russmo.com Reader:

May 2003 marks the two year anniversary of Russmo.com and, regrettably, it is now necessary that I make some changes relative to the time I invest in the site. From this point on I will be posting only one cartoon per month.

Although the Russmo.com readership has grown substantially during the last few months, my ability to make a living has suffered due to my position on the war with Iraq. While the people reading my site come from all political persuasions, most of my paying customers come (or used to come) from small U.S. newspapers– which tend to be conservative (conservative in the modern American definition). These customers purchase not only cartoons from my archives, but more importantly, custom cartoons, web images, and an assortment of other artwork. So, while I appreciate all my new readers from around the world, and the e-mails of support, the fact of the matter is the people who help me pay the bills are not happy with my recent work and are letting me know it.

I am a capitalist who believes in the free market system after all, so now I must bend with that market. I believe most self-proclaimed conservatives today don't really want limited government– their support of egregious government growth under President Bush is proof of that– they just want their man in power. Since I am unable to provide material for this niche, my traditional market, I will need to concentrate my efforts on my other art-related endeavors.

Fortunately I operate other Web sites where my customers are unaware of my political views. I will now be investing more time on these sites, from which my income is more stable.

The Russmo.com site is paid up for the next year, so the archives will still be available for browsing and, as mentioned earlier, I will continue to post one cartoon per month. This will be my hobby– for my own enjoyment and for championing limited government– so I will not be on a timetable. Making a living must come first.

To all my readers: I thank you for reading, for your comments and your suggestions. If I win the lottery, or if a wealthy benefactor decides to sponsor this site, I will start posting a freedom-oriented cartoon every day. Until then, by necessity, my investment of time here will be limited.

To my conservative customers who still order artwork from me: I thank you for your business; it is greatly appreciated.
