The mechanism behind Tesla's death ray is not well understood. It was apparently some sort of particle accelerator. Tesla said it was an outgrowth of his magnifying transformer, which focused its energy output into a thin beam so concentrated it would not scatter, even over huge distances. He promoted the device as a purely defensive weapon, intended to knock down incoming attacks - making the death ray the great-great grandfather of the Strategic Defense Initiative.
It is not certain if Tesla ever used the death ray, or indeed if he even succeeded in building one. But the following is the often-related story of what happened one night in 1908 when Tesla tested the foreboding weapon.
At the time, Robert Peary was making his second attempt to reach the North Pole. Cryptically, Tesla had notified the expedition that he would be trying to contact them somehow. They were to report to him the details of anything unusual they might witness on the open tundra. On the evening of June 30, accompanied by his associate George Scherff atop Wardenclyffe tower, Tesla aimed his death ray across the Atlantic towards the arctic, to a spot which he calculated was west of the Peary expedition.
Tesla switched on the device. At first, it was hard to tell if it was even working. Its extremity emitted a dim light that was barely visible. Then an owl flew from its perch on the tower's pinnacle, soaring into the path of the beam. The bird disintegrated instantly.
That concluded the test. Tesla watched the newspapers and sent telegrams to Peary in hopes of confirming the death ray's effectiveness. Nothing turned up. Tesla was ready to admit failure when news came of a strange event in Siberia.
On June 30, a massive explosion had devastated Tunguska, a remote area in the Siberian wilderness. Five hundred thousand square acres of land had been instantly destroyed. Equivalent to ten to fifteen megatons of TNT, the Tunguska incident is the most powerful explosion to have occurred in human history -- not even subsequent thermonuclear detonations have surpassed it. The explosion was audible from 620 miles away. Scientists believe it was caused by either a meteorite or a fragment of a comet, although no obvious impact site or mineral remnants of such an object were ever found.
Nikola Tesla had a different explanation. It was plain that his death ray had overshot its intended target and destroyed Tunguska. He was thankful beyond measure that the explosion had - miraculously - killed no one. Tesla dismantled the death ray at once, deeming it too dangerous to remain in existence.

The largest thermonuclear device detonated was equivalent to about 50 megatons of TNT. And that's after removing the most of fission material to reduce contamination. The projected power with the fission material intact would be 100 megatons of TNT.

Tunguska was shown to be a comet exploding in the upper atmosphere.

Tesla is such an object of folklore that stories like this aren't surprising.
Worse is that Tesla himself, despite his undoubted genius, fed the rumors. Whenever his pantry was bare and he needed publicity for a project, he would shoot his mouth off about having power to "crack open the planet" and make "free energy for all mankind." This never sat well with investors and has fed a cottage industry of crank alternative scientists.
At Border's bookshop the other day I noticed a new book, Hitler's Flying Saucers and flipped through it. Lots of the old mythology seems to be alive and well, including the one about the SS playing with antigravity.
Marshall MacLuhan called all this "the folklore of technological man." Taken that way it's no big deal. In the Middle Ages there were myths about the uncharted seas, now we have myths about inventions that never existed.

Nikola Tesla stole no one's "intellectual property." If anything his ideas were stolen from him by others, including other Europeans including Westinghouse and Marconi.
I repeat that Tesla's genius in undoubted. He had the ordinary arrogance of genius if that can even be called a flaw. Tom Edison was even worse. Edison's carefully crafted public persona hid a true megalomaniac. But again, no one doubts Edison's achievements.
To point out that great intellects are often flawed does not negate what they accomplish and the West still towers over the East in this regard.

The book, LIGHTNING IN HIS HAND. THE LIFE STORY OF NIKOLA TESLA by Ines Hunt and Wanetta V. Draper (Omni Publications), devotes an entire chapter to Tesla's death ray design. The description of Tesla's death ray is very similar to the description of the Soviet particle beam weapon. Hunt and Draper reported that news of Tesla's death ray appeared in a Colorado Springs paper on May 30, 1924. "The news story told of the invention of an invisible ray, developed by Tesla, which was capable of stopping airplanes in mid flight, an invention which had come about through improvements on Tesla's Colorado Springs discoveries."
The book stated that in 1934, an Associated Press report quoted Tesla as "saying that his ray was based on an entirely new principle of physics. He ... claimed that his bean could destroy 10,000 planes at a distance of two hundred and fifty miles. ... The beam was only one one-hundred-millionth centimeter." Tesla stated that his bean could create, "a veritable Chinese wall around the country, and could defend the United States against all foes." "His beam," he claimed, "could melt any engine, whether driven by diesel or gasoline or oil, and THERE WAS NO POSSIBLE DEFENSE AGAINST IT."
Hunt and Draper continued, "The ray was described as the most important of all Tesla's inventions so far. It was said that IT COULD SEND CONSECRATED BEAMS OF PARTICLES THROUGH FREE AIR, and could cause armies of millions to drop dead in their tracks. ...The Tesla ray involved four new inventions: one, comprising an apparatus for producing rays and other manifestations of energy in free air, eliminating the high vacuum necessary for producing such rays and beans; the second, a method for producing great electrical forces and the third, a plan for amplifying this process in the second invention; and the fourth, a new method of producing a tremendous repelling force. ... The voltages to be employed were fifty million volts, catapulted for destruction. The entire process was labeled, by Tesla, his 'TELEFORCE'."
Additional evidence that the Soviets are using the scientific techniques of Nikola Tesla in their weather warfare against America appeared in a press report in the September 23, 1977 WASHINGTON POST. The newspaper reported that "a strange, star-like ball of light was sighted over Petrozavodsk in Soviet Karelia, spreading over it like a jelly fish and showering down shafts of light." A number of Russians witnessed the event, which was reported by the Soviet news agency Tass. A similar phenomenon was seen over neighboring Finland.
Witnesses in Helsinki stated that a strange and unusual "ball of fire was visible for about four minutes."
An article in the JOURNAL OF GEOPHYSICAL RERSEARCH by Dr. B.N. Turuan stated that U.S. military intelligence satellites have also reported sighting what are apparently monster lightning bolts over the U.S.S.R. Dr. Thurman revealed that the " superbolts" were thousands of times more powerful than any previously sighted there.

According to Dr. Turuan, these "superbolts" have electrical power to about 10 TRILLION WATTS and total energies of more than a billion joules. Prior to the new Soviet sightings, the most powerful lightning bolts ever recorded were 10 billion watts and contained total energies of one million joules.
Anyone familiar with Nikola Tesla's numerous experiments (especially those in Colorado Springs) would recognize that the strange Soviet super lightning bolts are probably the direct result of Russia's use of the fantastically high power Tesla-style weather warfare attacks, nuclear fusion development, and the related particle beam death ray development. Tesla personally created lightning bolts about 1735 feet long, about 77 years ago.
The article in the June, 1976 issue of RADIO ELECTRONIC MAGAZINE described current US experimentation in creating gigantic Tesla-style man-made lightning and ball lightning (in the search for a fusion energy solution). However, the U.S. experiment is relatively tiny, compared to the massive Soviet efforts.

The Soviets are employing just such a scalar "death ray" weapon in Afghanistan, apparently in the noses of some of their HIND helicopters. These choppers usually fire gas rockets to camouflage the testing of the tactical scalar death ray. For example, they may fire rockets filled with nerve gas, and some persons will die convulsively from the chemical. Those hit by the scalar EM weapon, however, have a most peculiar death mode.
Death comes-instantly and totally. There is no convulsion, no response. The entire nervous system is destroyed instantly. Every living cell in the body is killed instantly, including all bacteria, germs, etc. A body hit with this thing falls like a limp rag and lies where it falls. It doesn't decay in even 30-45 days. In a macabre fashion, it's been reduced to something like food irradiated with nuclear radiation; everything is killed, so the material is preserved for an extended period before any decay can set in.
Western military authorities have speculated that this strange death is due to some sort of eery new gas. However, even with the most virulent gas, some seconds are required for a body to die. And while it's dying it goes into convulsions. Violent convulsions. This eery, instant death that leaves a non-decaying corpse is not due to a gas. This is the signature of a high-powered pulse kill using a scalar EM weapon. The associated gas rockets are the disguise used to fool our intelligence analysts. They're just part of the Soviet deception plan.

Death Rays and misplaced musings aside, Teslaââ¬â¢s contribution to our civilization is undisputed and unparalleled. If we measure the respective merits of inventions by societyââ¬â¢s dependence on products that have incorporated or are wholly depended on the inventions, it is apparent that the AC circuit alone ensures the manââ¬â¢s ranking at the forefront of genius. When compared with applications, actual or potential, with the theory of relativity, for example, it is no contest.
However, having read something of Teslaââ¬â¢s biography it is also apparent that apart from being an eccentric sort, he exhibited a cluster of peculiar behaviours which todayââ¬â¢s mental health profession would have found intriguing, and, doubtless, ground for pharmaceutical intervention. Though controversial, and depending on the prevailing mood of the times considered either as quaint or as point of fact, there is something of truth in the connection between genius and madness.

I've never seen nor heard of Euros claiming to have discovered or invented mathematics. Different cultures contributed - especially those hated Muslims, right? The GREEKS gave mathematics its first logical foundation, no one ever argues that. Except those that wish to change history, guys like yourself.
Calculus is definitely not from the East, oh liar of liars. Newton and Leibniz were busy in Europe, not New Delhi. And calculus wouldn't have come along without Algebra, which came from those hated ... ragheads you call them. The Greeks did 'perfect' it, but no one says they invented it. Geometry is another story. But why bring more truths to the table that make your supermen look bad, and explain why whites moved so far ahead of other races after getting a 'later start'? Oh wait, Euclid was really from a small town on the Ganges, right?
"Logical foundations give mathematics more than just certainty-they are a tool to investigate the unknown." Something that whites have been very good at, with E. Asians the next group behind them. Out of all the peoples of the world that have made mathematical breakthroughs, whites seem to have been the only ones that were able to put this knowledge to constant creative use. Arab contributions to mathematics and the introduction of the Zero Regional, Science, 4/22/1998
Arab contributions to human civilization are noteworthy. In arithmetic the style of writing digits from right to left is an evidence of its Arab origin. For instance, the numeral for five hundred in English should be written as 005, not as 500 according to English's left-to-right reading style.
Another invention that revolutionized mathematics was the introduction of the number zero by Muhammad Bin Ahmad in 967 AD. Zero was introduced in the West as late as the beginning of the thirteenth century. Modern society takes the invention of the zero for granted, yet the Zero is a non-trivial concept, that allowed major mathematical breakthroughs.
Arab civilizations also made a great contribution to fractions and to the principle of errors, which is employed to solve Algebra problems arithmetically.
Concerning Algebra, al-Khawarzmi is credited with the first treatise. He solved Algebra equations of the first and second degree (known as quadratic equations, and are are prevelant in science and engineering) and also introduced the geometrical method of solving these equations.
He also recognized that quadratic equations have two roots. His method was continued by Thabet Bin Qura, the translator of Ptolemy's works who developed Algebra and first realized application in geometry. By the 11th century the Arabs had founded, developed and perfected geometrical algebra and could solve equations of the third and fourth degree.
Another outstanding Arab mathematician is Abul Wafa who created and successfully developed a branch of geometry which consists of problems leading to equations in Algebra of a higher degree than the second. He made a number of valuable contributions to polyhedral theory.
Al-Karaki, of the 11th century is considered to be one of the greatest Arab mathematicians. He composed one arithmetic book and another on Algebra. In the two books, he developed an approximate method of finding square roots, a theory of indices, a theory of mathematical induction and a theory of intermediate quadratic equations.
Arabs have excelled in geometry, starting with the transition of Euclid and conic section of Apolonios and they preserved the genuine works of these two Greek masters for the modern world, by the 9th century AD. and then started making new discoveries in this domain.
In his book translated by Roger Bacon, Ibn al-Haitham wrote a book on geometrical optics, dealing with problems that would be difficult to solve even now.
It is also at the hand of the Arabs that the geometry of conic sections was developed to a great extent.
However, Arab achievements in this field were crowned by the discovery made by Abu Jafar Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn al-Hassan, known as Nassereddine al-Tusi. Al-Tusi separated trigonometry from astronomy. This contribution recognizes and explains weakness in Euclid's theory of parallels, and thereby may thus be credited as founder of non-Euclidian geometry.
