Arabs are tribal. First cousin marriage (consanguinity) reinforces this.
A few points: - It's not dying out at all. - Saddam married his cousin. 'Chemical Ali' was also his cousin. - Tribalism is so narrow in these places that there is no prospect of constitutional gummint, because the groups that see themselves as having shared interests are so small compared to the norm in European countries / Japan etc. - It also explains why they are so hopeless at defending their interests. The Kurds for instance seem to put more energy into fighting other Kurd clans than anything else, so Divide et impera works well on them. - When the commies in Eastern Europe fell, people didn't start turfing babies out of incubators so they could steal those incubators. Do the incubator stealers of Iraq subconciously think: 'not my tribe, not a problem' ?
