The White House yesterday announced that President Bush had nominated Daniel Pipes of Philadelphia, a controversial scholar of militant Islam, to the board of the U.S. Institute of Peace.
An American Muslim advocacy group that Pipes has called "Osama bin Laden's representatives in Washington" quickly denounced the appointment as "insensitive" and called on Bush to rescind it.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) yesterday described Pipes as "the nation's leading Islamophobe" and an advocate for Israeli interests.
Pipes is director of the Middle East Forum, a think tank based in Center City.
The Institute of Peace is a Washington-based federal institution, funded entirely by Congress, whose mandate is to promote "peaceful resolutions of international conflicts."
"Pipes' nomination sends entirely the wrong message as America seeks to convince Muslims worldwide that the war on terrorism and the war against Iraq are not attacks on Islam," CAIR declared in a statement.
CAIR and other Muslim groups say Pipes has made inflammatory assertions about Islam, including his estimate that from 10 to 15 percent of Muslims are militant Islamists.
Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for CAIR, said in an interview that he was unfamiliar with the institute "but... it [Pipes' nomination] is bad.
"It says: 'We're really not concerned with your [Muslims'] sensitivities. We don't care that you perceive certain actions of the U.S. government as slights to your faith and tradition.' "
Reached by phone in Washington, where he had been visiting the institute's headquarters, Pipes yesterday said he has "always distinguished between Islam and militant Islam" in his writings and speeches.
"CAIR repeatedly chooses to ignore my assertion that militant Islam is the problem and modern Islam is the solution," he said.
With a budget of about $16 million, the Institute of Peace has about 70 employees, many of whom are fellows, and 10 board members. The secretaries of state and defense sit ex officio on the institute's board.
The Senate must approve Pipes' appointment.
Way to go, Prez. You're the man....Oh, and should be "Pipes Nominated To The Board Of The U.S. Institute of Peace...damn typos

And, to go with this announcement of Jewish fifth column activity, the New York Times dares print on their Op-Ed page, today:
> ** **The Best Way Into Baghdad ...What Israel can teach the U.S. about urban war.... ** article by Yagil Henken, Jerusalem.
"With American forces beginning their assault on Baghdad, their commanders would do well to take a close look at the hard-learned lessons of Israel's experience with urban combat. Operation Defensive Shield, the Israeli antiterrorist strike last spring generated plenty of controversy, but it also supplies a good model for military tactics. After a series of Palestinian suicide bombings, the Israel Defense Forces entered several densely populated Westr Bank cities, including Nablus and Jenin. Within just a week, Israel gained control of each of them."**
This construction of events -- Henkin's "urban combat" was Palestinian citiies being assaulted like ghettos -- merges U.S. "Operation Iraqi Freedom" with Sharon's preemptive strike "to improve Israel's bargaining position" prior to Sec. of State Colin Powell's visit, as it was explained at the time. Doing this "back-fills" justification of their action, [iggy-back on the U.S.'s: "you can't object to what Israe did; you are doing the same thing in Baghdad (we'll show you how, etc.)"
But the suicide bomb kids weren't really "terrorists", killing innocent civilians randomly for no other reason than to cause terror and defeat them at war. These were the same kids that had previously been throwing stones, and getting shot for it; in defense of a people who were militarty suppressed, ghettoized, strung along with lies and deceptions (Oslo never intended) presented with fiat accomplis (the famous Shangai Clinton and Barak tried to pull off on Arafat at Cairo -- demanding he sign a deal they had drawn up in advance, then accusing him of refusing the offer because he "wanted it all", and proved "he could never be satisfied." Maybe he might have settled for being consulted in advance and not beibng treated like their black Cuffee: here, boy, sign this, its your passport down-river. They were statements of utter desparation; psychoanalytically, suicide bombers were delegates of repressed wish-fulmillment -- the kids who volunteered, and their helpers, would have thought they were acting for all who want to kill Jews, at the conscious or unconscious levels. (That, doubled back on itself, is the special horror that has glazed over the entire subject -- its hits everyone in the face with the harsh psychological reality that there even is such a thing as death-wishes toward Jews.)
Pipes on the Peace Institute Board would be like that proverbial boll weevil on the square. [SIZE=1]next time I looked he had his whole darn family there, they was lookin'
for a home....just a'looking for a home
The best part, though, was Ashley Banfield On Location for MSNBC, shoving mike and mane into Yassir's ashen face and poor surroundings, asking "Do you think you are still a viable leader?"
Play the Bag Pipes, boys. Bill Poole Died a True American.

You should see Pipes's performance on a program about "Conspiracies" on the History Channel. His remarks were all geared to make sure that viewers should think anyone who believes in conspiracies is a nut, a racist, a person who doesn't base their thinking in facts. Especially conspiracies that involve jews. He ended up, unintentionally, making David Icke look good, when the intent was to make him look the opposite.
It was also interesting to see Pipes in action in this program, as he came off as a pompous liar every time he was on. Very funny.

I saw that. What a hideous, transparent zhid. I wanted to reach through my screen and set his schmaltz-saturated beard on fire.
