We Stand with the Troops, Bush Misuses Them

Boulder, CO - At a meeting held Tuesday evening, the America First National Committee adopted a resolution entitled "Resolution in Support of the Troops and in Opposition to the Policy that Endangers both Them and the Peace". After opening the meeting with a stirring prayer for the safe return of our troops with as limited loss of innocent life as possible, the members debated and passed the resolution.

"Since its founding nearly one year ago, the America First Party has been the leading voice against this war, on the Right. We have held to a consistent and principled position. By passing this resolution, the National Committee has reaffirmed the Party's strong stand that this war against Iraq is not in the best interests of the United States. We have reaffirmed our commitment to ensure that the Constitution is followed. We have reaffirmed our commitment to the sovereignty and security of our beloved nation. We have reaffirmed our love, support, and respect for our brave sons and daughters who are being misused by President Bush to fight a war that violates our Constitution and the principles so many have fought and died to protect," said National Chairman Dan Charles.

Platform Committee Chairman Michael O'Brian said, "Our platform and the Constitution are clear--only Congress can declare war. This power cannot be transferred, except by constitutional amendment. This was not done. As a veteran and as a citizen, I am disgusted that the President is using our troops to 'liberate' the Iraqi people and secure Iraq's borders, while attacking our freedoms at home and leaving our ports and borders unsecured."

National Vice Chair and Vietnam veteran Gene Lovell added, "Saddam Hussein is a brutal and murderous dictator. He is a threat to his own people and may be to some of his neighbors. But, he is not a threat to the United States or the American people and there is no evidence he had any part in the 9/11 attack. He has never given weapons of mass destruction to anyone; he keeps them for his own use. Terrorists who may attack us with WMDs will more likely follow the lead of Aum Shinri Kyo. Terrorists will produce WMDs themselves, in a kitchen, using components easily available at any local market. Or, they will sneak them in through our porous borders. To protect our nation, we should focus on known threats, not 'what if' scenarios with little basis in fact. Instead, this war is producing recruiting videos for Islamic extremists and putting our troops in harm's way. Our founders did not want us to be the world's policeman. It is time we started listening to Washington, Jefferson, and Madison again."

The Resolution is available on the Party's web site.

f*ck the troops, if they had any balls, they would all go AWOL and not fight in this illegal war. Of course, they are young, dumb and full of cum as was I 40 yrs ago.

I've really had it up to here with this "Support The Troops" agitprop. Why should I "support" them, even if I'm against this war in the first place?? Because they're Americans, like I am?? Please. The anti-war opinion is no longer on the fringe. They do have some amount of clout. I also think that in hindsight, we are seeing just how absymal the neocons are, after thinking for so long this was just the liberal's domain.
