Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 9:28 a.m. EDT Maureen Dowd: 'Influential Jews' Pushing Iraq War
New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd was on the hot seat Monday morning for a paragraph buried deep in her Sunday column where she seemed to blame "influential Jewish conservatives" for persuading President Bush to go to war in Iraq.
"Influential Jewish conservatives inside and outside the administration have been fierce in supporting a war on Saddam, thinking it could help Israel by scrambling the Middle East map and encouraging democracy," contended the Irish Catholic liberal.
Dowd's suggestion that Jews in the Bush administration were putting Israel's interests over the U.S.'s raised eyebrows on the "Imus in the Morning" program.
Asked about the Times columnist's "influential Jewish conservatives" reference, Newsweek's Howard Fineman, a Dowd soulmate, insisted, "Maureen Dowd doesn't have an anti-Semitic bone in her body."
But moments later, when NBC Pentagon reporter Jim Miklaszewski was asked to explain what he thought Dowd meant by the remark, he said she was talking about a "what many would call a cabal within the administration."
IMUS: Who are these Jews 'Mo' Dowd's referring to as influencing Bush on the war? Wolfowitz? Richard Perle? Who?
MIKLASZEWSKI: Well, certainly there's that - what many would call a cabal within the administration - of not only those who are very much in favor of going into Iraq and removing Saddam Hussein a la an invasion - and one of the strongest voices within the administration, of course, is Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz. Great find, Ed.
The Left is getting increasingly bold.
Another couple months of this war and everybody will be saying "ITZ."
Itz!
Itz!!
Man, that feels good . . .
Try it!

BTW, Mo Dowd is one of your fellow Irish "Catholics," as the article prominently points out.
Also interesting is the fact that the NYT published it.
What are we to make of that? I think that recent op-ed columns posted on OD hit the nail on the head - mainstream American Jews are terrified of the potential blowback if the war goes badly. Maybe by identifying a few "bad Jews" like Perl (already given the axe) and Wolfowitz (he's probably next), they hope to deflect blame from the Jewish community in America at large.

They say "camp" is defined as either the tragically ludicrous or the ludicrously tragic. Either of which nicely describes the America reflected in this story: a country so not under the thumb of Jews that everything grinds to a halt because - "buried deep in her Sunday column" - a columnist used the words "influential Jews". We're so free of disproportionately influential Jews that the use of the phrase is automatically injudicious regardless of context, requiring the deployment of a fire-extinguisher Jew like Fineman to keep the blaze under control until a ladder company can get there.
And now, like a climactic action-movie car chase full of screeching tires & hairpin turns - yet ironically taking place in a hushed silence with the audience nervously looking on, too anxious to murmur - America waits for Dowd to......ummm, explain herself. Or something. (Because as we already know....this can't just be determined a non-story and go away.)
But what's truly 'camp' about this story is that the Official American Default Position is a reflexive flinching from a blow not even delivered! It's 2003, we're at freakin' war with the Arab world, and yet - still! - the mere "suggestion that Jews in the Bush administration were putting Israel's interests over the U.S.'s" still reliably "raises eyebrows". As if Jews were all like that kid in the TWILIGHTZONE who can turn us into three-headed dogs and will us into the cornfield just by concentrating for a moment.
"I-i-it's good that the Jews did that, it's v-v-very good!"

Oh, she'll buckle because if you want to work in the center ring you had better tow the line. So she'll cave.
The goy neocons are the people I love to hate the most. They remind me of John Candy in that old movie where he and Hanks went to 'Nam. The Candy AFTER Charlie had brainwashed him. Spouting ridiculous commie slogans like a true believer.
O'Reilly, to name one, always has a look on his face that is saying "Gawd, I'm actually the next big thing. And all I have to do is be 100% pro Israel. Who likes Arabs anyway? They don't own any networks. This suit cost 1400 bucks ferchrissak."
A few days ago he was pissed big time cause the Iraqi civilians in Bagdahd wouldn't leave town so we can level it.
Fred Barnes is another one. A total mediocrity who is getting rich big time because they need to put some goy faces up front. Otherwise even the morons in flyover country will catch on that this is a jew thingee. If we nuked Iraq, Iran and Syria tomorrow he'd be all for it.
And if you think they are bad, get a load of some if the local guys trying to take the career path to the big time out of some 5K watt talk station.
It is amazing how much of this Single A talent has already been to Israel. Many of them multiple times. They know what it takes to stick in the Bigs.
Judas goats I consider them.

"General" Mike Gallagher is one of the more repulsive of this lot...

Imus is not Jewish.
Both Fred Barnes and Bill O'Reilly are tough-talking neocons desirous of impressing their bosses by supporting Israel through all situations. Both had their testicles drop after 26th birthday. They evaded Vietnam.
From the last war in the Gulf > In the Pentagon Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Paul Wolfowitz, born in Brooklyn in 1943, spent the years of the Vietnam War getting his education within the confines of the United States. Mr. Wolfowitz after obtaining his doctorate would soon gain a reputation for being a hawk and a cold warrior. In three taped interview sessions with the New York Times Mr. Wolfowitz, who is Jewish, betrayed emotion only once when he revealed sensitivity about criticisms from senior military officers that during the Persian Gulf war he was overly sympathetic to Israeli concerns. "It gets me pretty annoyed when I hear comments that I'm sort of a one-issue person with unreasonable sympathy about Israel." (NYT, pA14, Dec 23, 1991)
Dr. Wolfowitz has much courage and ideals for your son when Israel is involved.
