Two men affiliated with the border watch group Ranch Rescue were being held in Jim Hogg County Jail on Thursday in lieu of $200,000 bond on allegations they detained two undocumented Salvadorans and beat one with a gun. Henry M. Conner Jr., 62, of Lafayette, La., and James N. Casey, 35, of La Mirada, Calif., were each charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful restraint.

Due process is taking a beating in South Texas.
For the past two weeks, politically-correct forces have been throwing the book at two members of Ranch Rescue who were arrested after having the audacity to help a Hebbronville, Texas property owner evict criminal trespassers.
Hank Conner, 62, of Lafayette, La, and Casey Nethercott, 35, of La Mirada Calif., were arrested on March 19 by the Jim Hogg County Sheriff and a Texas Ranger. The volunteers were charged with assaulting an unnamed El Salvadoran national who they encountered on the property and escorted out to a public road. The Ranch Rescue group, and an independent eyewitnessââ¬âFrench journalist Eric Boye who accompanied the two menââ¬âinsist that the charges are false.
After almost two weeks in custody, Conner was released on $200,000 bail on March 28.
But as of April 2, Nethercott remains in jail in Falfurrias, Texas, with a $200,000 bail on his head. The saga continues.
A habeas corpus petition for Nethercottââ¬â¢s release was denied April 1 in the stateââ¬â¢s 229th District Court. The ruling can be appealed to the stateââ¬â¢s 4th Court of Appeals in San Antonio.
Ranch Rescue spokesman Jack Foote swears that the assault charges arenââ¬â¢t true.
Foote reports that his two volunteers were denied medical treatment for the first two days after their arrest. Nethercott is being kept in solitary confinement at a detention facility with ââ¬Åno TV, no radio, no newspapers, no magazines, no books, not even a Bible,ââ¬Â according to Foote.
ââ¬ÅCasey Nethercott is being held as a hostage in many respects,ââ¬Â according to Ranch Rescue California coordinator Stacy Polk. ââ¬ÅHis county-appointed attorney will not see him, so he only has me to talk with at night when he gets his one phone call.ââ¬Â
ââ¬ÅTo hire an attorney is going to cost lots more than we have. They are using Casey as their poster child for abuse of power in Southern Texas. They do not want him out.ââ¬Â
So if an independent eyewitness ââ¬â a Frenchman, no less ââ¬â swears that the men did nothing wrong, why were Conner and Nethercott arrested in the first place?

Remember that Ranch Rescue volunteers recently demonstrated their prowess in stopping marijuana-hauling ââ¬Åmulesââ¬Â along the Mexican border in Arizona.
A volunteer tactical team ââ¬â with many years of military and law enforcement experience ââ¬â captured and turned over 279 pounds of marijuana to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff in just one evening in October, 2002.
Their efforts were recognized in the media. They were lauded in a feature series in Soldier of Fortune magazine.
Ranch Rescue already proved what theyââ¬â¢re doing works.
Though their efforts may be largely symbolic, they are part of the solution for border area landowners trying to cope with the illegal alien invasion.

The South Texas ranch where Nethercott and Conner were volunteering just happens to be a high-traffic area for illegal aliens, alien smugglers and drug smugglers. They trespass on the ranch to avoid a nearby Border Patrol checkpoint.
Ranch owner Joe Sutton had enough. He called Ranch Rescue. The group volunteered in a project they called Operation Falcon. And for their troubles, two of the volunteers were thrown in jail.
So how can the average citizen compete against a governmentââ¬â¢s tyranny of good intentions?
Does the Nethercott and Conner affair prove the death of due process in Jim Hogg County?

I find it amusing, yet disturbing, that while Comrade Bush has declared that conquering the Middle East is necessary for Security, our borders remain as wide open as ever, and Americans who dare try to protect it are treated worse than the illegals themselves!

Until the Federalis lock down our Southern border with Mexico, any action Congress or the Executive branch takes in the name of security or combating terrorism is simply a joke and an excuse to undermine real Americans' constitutional liberties.
Never, ever lose sight of that and you'll never lose your bearings while being subjected to the endless propaganda campaign post 9/11.

Talked to some folks who live near the northern border. [ Thats Canada for the benefit of all the freeper lurkers]
They said that the Border Patrol has been expanded to the point that the Barney Fife's are tripping over each other looking for something to do. They are running all around the countryside playing highway patrol and acting like good little STASI agents.
Seems that a couple of months ago the powers that be had some of these guys sitting out on some frozen lakes watching the snow blow across the border, when they got too cold the nitwits-in-charge then procured some fish houses for the officers to sit in so they wouldn't freeze the family jewels. :1eye:

Just recently Rummy told the Syrians that they are responsible for what goes across their border with Iraq- a frank admission that a country can control its border if it feels like it. Zog doesn't feel like controlling the border with Mexico, cuz that wouldn't be good for Jews. :taz:
