Hello, everybody. Greetings from Baltimore. I want to share a couple of unusual things I have seen in the past day or two that I believe are related to heightened security, and would like to hear similar stories of anything weird going on out there.
Two days ago, down very near the White House at 15th and K, around 11:00 am, I saw a traffic cop, full uniform, orange slicker, hat, etc. but also with long hair pulled into a ponytail and a beard. I can only figure the guy was a narc, because I've never seen a cop with a beard or long hair. Why would an undercover officer, if that's what he was, be out in uniform exposing his face? Does that imply the manpower is stretched very thin?
Then there was the American flag guy in the sandwich shop this morning. He was handing out flags and talking about all his friends who had died, but obviously had a screw loose. His car, with windows out and big body damage, was covered with U.S. Marines bumper stickers, but his flags, on closer inspection, bore the Army website on the little chopstick-like pole. That struck me as a little bit odd.

The first instance is just a case of lowered standards, IMO. The MPD (DC) is one of the few police departments that always Sikhs to carry their swords and wear their turbins and beards.
The second case is an example of a pathetic guy and useful idiot of the neo-militarism initiated by the trinity of evil: PNAC & Co, the GOP and Fundamentalists, and Lockheed-Martin, et al.
