When I took a college history course, they mentioned the nude negro laws of the 1870's. Some small towns in the deep south passed laws saying that all negroes must walk around "african style" while out in public, meaning nude. The basic purpose of this was to keep them in line and to stop them from carrying concealed weapons. Of cause they didnt mind checking out the females either. These laws were eventually rescinded because the will to enforce them was lacking.
