White Supremacist Is Held in Ordering Judge's Death

CHICAGO, Jan. 8 ââ¬â A white supremacist was arrested this afternoon on charges that he had solicited someone to kill a federal judge presiding over a copyright case regarding the name of his organization, the World Church of the Creator.
The man, Matthew Hale, 31, who calls himself the church's supreme leader and Pontifex Maximus, was taken into custody at the federal building in downtown Chicago as he headed to a conference on the copyright case in the courtroom of Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow of Federal District Court. The arrest came shortly after Mr. Hale denounced Judge Lefkow in a news conference, saying she was biased against him because she was married to a Jewish man and had grandchildren who were biracial.
Law enforcement officials with Chicago's Joint Terrorism Task Force said Mr. Hale had crossed the line when he asked another person to "forcibly assault and murder" Judge Lefkow.
"Certainly freedom of speech and freedom of religion are important in our society here in America," Thomas J. Kneir of the F.B.I. told reporters in announcing Mr. Hale's indictment. "But the threat of physical violence will not be tolerated."
Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the United States attorney here, added, "Freedom of speech does not include the freedom to solicit murder."
About a dozen World Church of the Creator members stood when Mr. Hale entered a federal courtroom this afternoon for his arraignment, several of them raising their right hands in what they called a Roman salute but is more commonly known as a Nazi salute. Mr. Hale pleaded not guilty to the solicitation and obstruction of justice charges and will remain in custody until a detention hearing on Monday afternoon.
"This is totally bogus ââ¬â it's in our Constitutional rights to believe in a religion," said Shawn Powers, 21, a member of Mr. Hale's movement. "We are a bona fide religion, and they are trying to take that away from us. Matt Hale is not a violent man, he doesn't advocate violence."
The arrest revived memories of the Fourth of July weekend in 1999, when one of Mr. Hale's followers, Benjamin Smith, went on a three-day rampage in Illinois and Indiana, killing two men, one black and one Korean, and injuring nine other Jews, Asians and African-Americans before committing suicide.
Those who monitor white supremacist and other hate groups said Mr. Hale had been brilliant in using the Internet to recruit young members, luring them through a network of 30 Web sites featuring compelling graphics and interactive games. His church, "dedicated to the survival, expansion and advancement of the white race," claims 70,000 members in 49 states and 28 countries, though some experts say the movement has just a few hundred adherents.
"Matt Hale has been allowed with impunity to engage in terrorist-like activity for four years now," Richard S. Hirschhaut, director of the Anti-Defamation League's Midwest office, said today. "He has had blood on his hands for more than four years. He is now where he should be."
Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights organization based in Los Angeles, said in a statement that Mr. Hale's arrest "could remove the most dangerous American racist of his generation."
Mr. Hale's path crossed Judge Lefkow's after an Oregon organization known as the TE-TA-MA Truth Foundation filed a lawsuit to block Mr. Hale from using the term "Church of the Creator," which it had registered as a trademark. Judge Lefkow originally ruled in favor of Mr. Hale but was overturned on appeal, and in November she ordered his group to stop using the name on the Internet and to destroy any printed materials including it.
Mr. Hale later sued Judge Lefkow, 59, who was appointed to the district court by President Bill Clinton in 2000, claiming her order violated the Constitution by requiring the destruction of the group's bibles.
"If federal judges are to sit in judgment of the people, the people must be able to sit in judgment of them," he said at the time. On various Web sites, Mr. Hale has urged followers to picket Judge Lefkow's church, and has referred to her as "a white woman married to a Jew with three mixed grandchildren."

Faust, you're right, certain things don't add up here.
I saw this on the nightly news yesterday, and the report left out a critical piece of information: Hale is countersuing the church that sued him with the claim that he stole their trademark, and Hale is also suing this judge that ruled against him in the trademark case--the same judge that now claims Hale tried to hire someone to kill her. This is an important context for viewing these events.
The lack of mention of the lawsuits Hale has filed is deliberate, I think, because it helps refute these charges that he tried to hire an assassin.
Hale was denied his law license by the state bar a couple years back, but he still has his J.D. degree. He's filed these lawsuits because he believes in using the law as his method for taking on a corrupt system. His background and behavior to date suggests he is comfortable, competent, and content to use legal means in fighting his political battles. He's also the leader of the WCOTC, and I'm sure he knows that having that position means he's being watched closely by the Feds and the ADL as well--his phones are probably tapped, he probably has someone surveilling him, and the like. I doubt he'd be stupid enough to try to hire a killer knowing that he'd certainly be caught. As I said, things just don't add up here.
The implications of this event are frightening, though. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that the government has made such a blatant move by locking Hale up. Basically the judge is saying, "you want to file a lawsuit against me, then it seems to me you're a terrorist that's plotting to kill me so I need to lock you up." And which person will they believe? Hale or the judge? In this day and age where "racism" is the chief unforgivable sin, Hale has already been tried and convicted--the trial will be a formality.

This might give some of you a heart attack, but I think you guys have a point. There is something definitely fishy about this. Obviously I don't care much for Hale's opinions, but I care even less for prosecutors playing a game of "Gotcha!" based on those opinions.
The David Duke case looks equally suspicious, BTW.

Your thoughts were mine, P. I immediately thought of Duke when I read this and my conspiratorial side took over. Could this be the initial stages of a concerted political purge effort by the Feds?
As we learned well from the massacre at Waco and subsequent Smith kangaroo court in San Antonio, we cannot trust in the least the integrity of the Fed agents, prosecutors or judicial system.
Uncanny how the Terrorism Task Force can't seem to find any evil Arab or Israelis among us, but boy they sure can nab those bad white Americans.

I don't think we need to rely on a conspiracy here, or an upcoming purge. I think it's matter of abusive prosecutors eager to embellish their resumés by bagging themself a "hate-figure" on the quick and sly.
There've been plenty of Arabs bagged by the feds. As to the Israelis, I think something is still going to break with the "art students" case, but incompetence and cowardice has definitely been the word to describe the government and media's handling of that case. As to Jews in general, though, as Irv Rubin could have told you, they didn't have any problem getting him.

And there's more to the lack of addition here... Hale, in addition to repeated demonstrations of legal action in defense of his group, was arriving that morning to answer his contempt charge in the trademark case. Does a guy out to kill a judge show to answer such a charge? OK, to cover his tracks and appear law-abiding. But where's the evidence? The grand jury indictment, available on Hal Turner's website (or from his e-mail news service), says absolutely nothing about who, when and where Hale solicited the murder of the judge. Such indictments (remember the ham sandwich quote) can be based on FBI affidavits, which typically list the specifics... where is this information? I would be quite disappointed to learn that Hale did, in fact, call up a hitman of some sort, but I rather doubt that happened. I think the defense attorney quoted at the end of the Times article has the best of it... heated Web rhetoric trumped up into a solicitation charge. Methinks Fitzgerald's a goy attack dog like the rest, hoping to score an award from the ADL for his desk at the U.S. Attorney's office.

Mr. Fitzgerald, the prosecutor, would not provide details about Mr. Hale's case, including whom he had solicited for the murder, whether money was involved, how officials discovered the plot or whether Judge Lefkow was in danger.
I'll wager that the lack of detail is telling. As has already been mentioned, the case will probably be based on a deliberate twisting of rhetoric, rather than proof that Hale actually put out a contract on the witch. I seriously doubt that a trained lawyer would be that stoopid.
First Duke, now Hale. It's as if the Feds are mounting a push to get prominent White nationalists and demoralize the rank & file.

Utterly bogus. Hale was a trained lawyer who was SUING them, and there's every reason to believe his suit has (had?) sturdy sealegs to stand upon. He's being railroaded in one of two ways:
1) The Feds have 'turned' an ex-Halie (with the carrot and stiock of dropped charges, possibly on other matters completely unrelated to COTC matters)
2)Much like the guy in Wisconsin arrested for his barroom braggadoccio, they're acting on a "conversation" overheard by a third party -in effect, firing a Howitzer at a housefly.
But the HOW is unimportant. It's the WHO that bears underlining, and I'm not talking about Jews (although they certainly play their part). The forces that have been steadily hammering away at Hale with extralegal vigor are the same ones directing yard apes to wand old women with metal detectors in airports; the same ones listening in to you in saloons & watching you at traffic lights; the same ones busily constructing their sinister Offices of Homeland Security and Information Awareness to monitor message boards just like this one as necessary security measures that must be taken before they can enact their lunatic Project For A New American Century proposals.
I'm talking about the single most implacable & unscrupulous bete noire of white American conservatives in the world today: the Republican Party.
It seems unthinkable, if not insane, but after 8 years of Clinton, the GOP alternative has turned out to be WORSE. All those Broken Glass Republicans we were hearing about got their knees scabbed for nothing.

EAST PEORIA - Two neighbors of Matt Hale said the avowed white supremacist was a good neighbor who endured verbal harassment without responding in kind.
The 31-year-old Hale was an infrequent visitor to the 103 Moschel Street address where he apparently shared a home with a woman.
Carl Horton, who lives two houses down, said he and others along Moschel Street didn't care for Hale's racial and political stances but that he always was polite and considerate, even to those who would "cuss" at him.
"He'd be in the yard and these people would drive by and cuss him. He (Hale) wouldn't say nothing back to them.

Horton said he had talked to his neighbors, many of whom didn't believe Hale was capable of the crimes that has been charged with.
"There isn't anyone on this block who believes that he went and hired a hitman. I asked them and they believe it's a trumped-up charge to get him out of the way because he preaches hatred," he said.

HALE REBUKED FOR LAWLESSNESS
JACKSON - In a stinging rebuke, a Nationalist lawyer has said that if the evidence warrants it, Matt Hale should be found guilty of charges he tried to arrange the murder of a judge. And, Richard Barrett said that it is likely the evidence will hold up, given Hale's history of contempt for the law. Barrett, who provided evidence in the recent conviction of David Duke, said that "repugnant and repulsive conduct which brings the pro-majority cause into disrepute must be repudiated." Hale, an atheist who claims to be a "minister," was arrested in Chicago upon showing up for a contempt-of-court hearing. "I was not surprised," said Barrett, who said in a release that he had once advised Hale to obey the law, but had been rebuffed.
Hale, who calls himself a "white-supremacist," had received a horde of books by the late Ben Klassen, an atheistic Russian immigrant who killed himself when no one joined an "atheist church" he had built in North Carolina. Barrett said that Klassen had offered to donate his assets to The Nationalist Movement, but that the organization had declined on the grounds that a million-dollar judgment had been imposed against Klassen for conspiring in a murder and that any assets would be subject to seizure. Hale later acquired some of Klassen's books, which he distributed using Klassen's "Church of the Creator" name from the basement of his father's residence in Peoria, Illinois, where he lived. Hale-associate Benjamin Smith later went on a shooting spree, killing two and wounding nine, before killing himself.
"Using a name, which had a judgment against it and made any assets subject to seizure, was a reckless act, indicating lack of good judgment," said Barrett, who had filed a protest against Hale with the Illinois Bar Association, which refused a law-license to Hale on the grounds of character unfitness. Barrett filed a similar protest in Wyoming, when Hale unsuccessfully attempted to gain a law-license there. Barrett said that Hale had once contacted The Nationalist Movement seeking guidance in burning an Israeli flag, but that when told the proper procedures, Hale insisted that he had no use for lawful means. "Those seeking an all-American America and, especially, opposing Israel must police our own ranks and win public support," said Barrett. "There is no place for loose-cannons who get people needlessly jailed and give the cause of freedom and majority-rule a bad name."
Barrett denounced as "hysterically opportunistic" a move by Wyoming legislator Jayne Mockler to re-introduce failed "hate" legislation. Mockler's proposals, introduced for the past twelve years, have failed on the grounds that they violate constitutional guarantees of freedom of speech. Mockler has called for Negroes and "other minorities" to join her coalition of homosexuals to lobby for the bill, based on Hale's announcement that he was trying to relocate to Wyoming. Barrett said that the Constitution is stronger than the "pretext" given by Hale's conduct to "hate-law" proponents. Barrett noted that "the news media will try to use Hale to vilify pro-majority adherents, but they never use Carl Weiss, Colin Ferguson or Wayne Williams to upbraid pro- minority elements. We can expect, but dismiss, the hypocrisy that will revolve around the Hale incident."
Hale had adopted the slogan "Rahowa," initiated by Klassen, which stood for "racial holy-war," a take-off from the Islamic Jihad. Hale was instrumental in the organizing of a band by the same name in Detroit, which disbanded when its founder, George Burdi, was jailed for assault and tax- violations. Burdi, also an atheist, moved in with his East-Indian concubine upon release from jail and set up a new band composed of Negroes, Jews and homosexuals. Alex Curtis, who operated the "Nationalist-Observer" website and had praised Hale, apologized to minorities upon pleading guilty to conspiracy charges in California. Nationalists had denounced both lawbreakers and stated that they had had no connection with them. A poster on the Nationalist's "Crosstar" forum had lately posted a link to Hale's webpage, but the link was shut down with the warning, "Please do not link to anything which counsels lawlessness or evokes conspiracies to violate the law."
Barrett said that it is, also, possible -- though not likely -- that prosecutors may have overstepped themselves in the Hale case. He related how he had attended the famous "sedition" trial in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1988, in which anti-Israel-activists had been accused of trying to kill a federal judge. All were acquitted. "The charges were trumped up in Fort Smith and could be, again, in Chicago," Barrett warned. "But, just as there should have been no black-balling in Fort Smith, there must be no white-washing in Chicago." However, Hale had recently been ridiculing those who call for obeying and using the law over his Internet site. He had been rebuking Barrett as "delusional" and a "psycho" and castigating Nationalism with such slogans as "F--- America" and "F--- Christianity." The day of his arrest, Hale had posted a message stating that he found it hard "to justify the continuance of legal, as opposed to illegal, tactics" or to "preach legality."

I am finding Richard Barrett and the "Nationalist Movement" more distasteful. He seems to be looking for fights to pick and happy to other go down. Not that I do not also find the WCOTC distasteful as well.

I'm wondering if we should start some sort of OD pool, the winner of course picking the next troublesome white to be nabbed ... let's see, Curtis, down. Duke, down. Hale, down. Alex Linder comes to mind ... nah, not so well known as the others, he hasn't been "groomed" by the media for a big role on the nightly news. Yet.
Yes, this seems suspicious. On the heels of the Duke fiasco, I'd say the Hale arrest (kidnapping as some term it) comes of as A WARNING.

My money's on the La Voz de Aztlan bunch. Radical Hispanic nationalism and anti-Zionism is hot on the ZOG radar these days. Plus, TPTB have significant political support from the Religious Right and their media organs (WorldNetDaily, NewsMax, Washington Times, Fox News, Neocon Talkradio) on this one.
Alternatively, in the wake of the Lott brouhaha, they might turn up the heat on CofCC. With Barr gone and Lott an "example" no politician will rush to their defense in today's PC climate.

I'm guessing that this is a preemptive strike on Hale in regards to the ordered burning of the COTC bibles.
Hale was obviously gonna fight that tooth and nail, though he'd lose. However, it wouldn't be good PR to see COTC members being dragged out of the way so that JBT types could burn their bibles. Granted, the fact that they're a bunch of knotsies wouldn't generate a whole lot of sympathy for them, but I think they'd rather not take the chance.
This way, a trumped-up charge against Hale gets him to cop a plea to avoid being bankrupted into prison and provides cover for the bible-burning because that would no doubt be a condition of any deal. If he doesn't take a deal, they'll simply send him to club fed for 10-20 years since there's no way in hell he'd get an impartial jury (I wouldn't be surprised to see the trial in Chicago where Smith went on his little spree to insure a conviction) and torch the bibles in the meantime after they're seized as evidence.
