The Empire, 2003 Hereââ¬â¢s a plan for Europe.

In the cold climes of the north, millions of old and aging people, many of them retired at 55 or 60 years, look forward to a future, perhaps, decades of life, without the discipline of work.
They are the pensioners of the wealthy European countries whose demographic composition is in deep crisis. All but four of the 15 original members of the European Union are facing a population decline. At least three ââ¬â Germany, Italy, and Spain ââ¬â may even disappear as nations before the end of the century. By most conservative estimates, the EU needs at least 1.2 million new immigrants each year to preserve its demographic balance.
And, yet, the union has adopted, and is trying to enforce, a string of rigid anti-immigration laws, during the past few years.
The picture to the south of Europe, across the Mediterranean, is quite different. There, millions of young people are queuing at European consulates in the hope of getting the visas they seldom secure. They, too, face a bleak future because, unless things change, they are unlikely to get the education and job opportunities without which they will not access modern living standards.
So, what is the solution?
Put simply, the solution is to revive the Roman Empire! Of course, not as an empire with an emperor and all that, but as a space within which many different nation states can work together without frontiers.
For over 1,000 years, Europe, North Africa, and part of the Middle East were components of a natural geographical entity with no internal frontiers. Peoples and goods freely traveled within that vast area, contributing to economic prosperity and cultural enrichment. All religions were allowed because the state had no religion of its own. No one would be jailed for his political opinions. As long as an individual obeyed the law, the state didn't care about his race, ethnic background, sex, religion, or economic status.
The Roman world did have its ugly side, however. It tolerated slavery and, in its final phases, was sinking in a morass of moral turpitude.
It is strange that almost 2,000 years later, that natural geographic and historic entity is divided across religious, cultural, and ethnic lines. The EU has just admitted as new members a string of countries like Poland and three Baltic republics that were never part of the Roman Empire. At the same time, it has rejected Turkey that, for a thousand years, was the center of Roman power.
The EU doors are also shut to Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Morocco that were part of Rome before it extended its rule to present-day France and Britain. What is now Turkey, Egypt, and North Africa produced numerous leaders for the empire, including at least six emperors.
The logic of globalization dictates that state frontiers, which began to solidify as a result of World War I, be lifted to create larger economic, social, and cultural spaces.
North Africa, which has the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, could become a kind of Florida for the old-age pensioners of western and northern Europe. In exchange, millions of young people could move north from the south to provide the labor force needed to keep the modern European economies going. Turkey, for its part, could become an important reservoir of manpower, agricultural production, and purchasing power for an expanded Europe.
A judicious mix of wealth and technology from the north and manpower from the south could turn the Euro-Mediterranean region into the biggest and most prosperous economy the world has ever seen.
A purely continental Europe, however, will be heading for what population experts describe as "the gray explosion". At the same time, the southern and eastern regions of the Mediterranean will remain poor with a demographic time bomb ticking in their midst.
Against that background it is interesting to see some Europeans cling to old prejudices to promote a "little Europe" ideology. France's former President Valery Giscard d'Estaing claims that Turkey's entry into the EU could mean "the end of Europe."
The reason?
Giscard answers with one word: Islam.
Germany's former Chancellor Helmut Kohl, despite the fact that his own son has married a Turkish Muslim lady, takes a similar position.
What Giscard and Kohl ignore is the fact that Islam already forms the second-largest, and the fastest growing, religious community in the European Union. Giscard and Kohl are yesterday's men, with a vision oriented toward the past rather than the future.
What would happen if the entire European continent, including all those that have refused to join the EU, enter the club alongside with Turkey, Egypt and the four North African countries? This new and expanded version of the old Roman Empire will have a total population of around 800 million of which some 250 million would be Muslims.
Giscard's claim that Muslims could "swamp Europe out of existence" is pure fantasy.
The Europeans, especially the French, pride themselves in having secular political systems. Thus there is no logic in treating the European Union as if it were an exclusively Christian club. It makes no sense for the European Union to court Georgia and Armenia as future members, simply because they are Christians, but slam the door in the face of Turkey and Morocco which are closer to Europe by geography and history.
One crucial lesson of history is that civilizations that close themselves end up weakened and ultimately perish.
Rome's own history is an illustration. As long as it was an open society, accepting people of all faiths and ideas, it remained a dynamic maker of civilization. Once it had frozen into an instrument for a single dogmatic brand of Christianity, it began to decline and was ultimately defeated by its traditional enemies.
Prosperity is like the flame of a candle. If applied to the wick of unlit candles it can produce a feast of light. If left to burn alone it will eventually die out.

Where to begin? Almost every detail is patently false or inaccurate. At first reading this article appears merely the usual lies and half-truths from the hucksters of pyramid economics. The only distinguishing features in this instance are the largely irrelevant, and sometimes bizarre, comparisons to the Roman Empire. On second reading Mr. Taheri's anti-Christian rhetoric emerges. Essentially we are presented with some third rate economics, a helping of fourth rate pseudo-history and a splash of (mild) anti-Christian sentiment.
Perhaps my American cousins could explain to me how Mr. Amir Taheri expects you to buy such claptrap on life within the Roman Empire? Is the American education system so far gone that he thinks folks will buy his vision of 'Ancient Rome the multicultural melting pot'?

'Demographic balance' is an interesting choice of words; Europe changes demographically from a continent of European peoples to a continent of non-European peoples. These estimated 'needs' are those of greedy business for the requisite amount of cheap labor.
And, yet, the union has adopted, and is trying to enforce, a string of rigid anti-immigration laws, during the past few years.
Outright lie. The EU entity itself has no 'anti-immigration' laws. In fact none of the individual member states have 'anti-immigration' laws. The few states which have tried, in a hopelessly anemic way, to address the problem with 'asylum seekers' have being roundly decried as fascist by the left wing European press (left wing and European press are mutually inclusive). The fact is Europe is facing similar problems to USA with its Mexican border and is addressing it no better.
The picture to the south of Europe, across the Mediterranean, is quite different.
It is indeed; the picture is one of grinding poverty, violence and medieval barbarism. This is a direct result of the 'demographic balance' in Africa and the Middle East.

Entering Europe provides them with modern living standards because they and their nations are incapable of creating these standards. A piggyback ride is required.

Firstly they are in fact separate geographical entities. That is why the have separate names which designate them as such. Such facts are geography 101. Secondly the 'states' of the time most certainly had frontiers and trade tariffs, in fact there were even more 'internal frontiers' than today.
Peoples and goods freely traveled within that vast area, contributing to economic prosperity and cultural enrichment.
I like the way a backhanded reference to multiculturalism was slipped in there. Well maybe the non-Europeans experienced 'cultural enrichment' as in The Life of Brian "What have the Romans ever done for us?" sketch.
All religions were allowed because the state had no religion of its own.
The first part of the statement that all religions were allowed is an outright lie. Romans considered Druidic rituals barbaric and regularly put Druids to the sword. Any western child knows about Christians and lions. Predictably for this article the second part of the statement is also untrue, although the nature of 'state' religion changed throughout Rome's history. In fact it is the very conflict between the state religion and 'native' religion that caused beliefs to be proscribed. Probably the non-Chritian official state religion we are most familiar with is the divinity of Emperors, the Jews certainly were not pleased about various attempts to install graven images of the Emperor within their most holy temple. Virtually all the problems between Rome and Judea were religious in nature.
No one would be jailed for his political opinions.
Of course, Cicero only had his head cut off and a nail driven through his tongue because he was a bad singer and Jesus was merely fined for his unpopular religious views.

Inaccurate pseudo-history and mumbo jumbo, a child with five minutes to spare and internet access can prove the ignorance of the author's statement.

Rome disintegrated primarily because most of her people no longer identified with Rome, quite far from being torn apart by invading hordes it was her own mercenary (non-Roman) generals/client kings who brought her low. To disintegrate is to lose integration, multiculturalism in a nutshell. Obviously no nation can survive if it's composed of non-nationals who owe their allegiance to a separate identity. Africans and Asians are not Europeans and quite naturally do not identify with Europe.

Utterly pointless factoid, sadly the author hasn't taken time to state whether these six (out of about 170 in the Western Empire alone), were good leaders.

This assumes globalization contains any logic to begin with, European frontiers were tragically altered not solidified as a result of World War I. This destruction of national frontiers based on ethnic lines paved the way for the disaster of World War II.

Turkey could become an important reservoir of agricultural production for the EU!?! The same EU that pays its farmers NOT to produce. The EU can produce many times the amount of agricultural goods it requires, particularly with the recent addition of large agricultural states like Poland. Sorry Turkey you'll have to do better than cheap citrus fruit.

The hollowness of this sentence is illustrated by the inability or disinclination of the author to provide any examples of this phenomenon. Japan was a 'closed' civilization for almost all it's existence and far from perishing it has proven to be one of history's most enduring civilizations. Mr. Taheri does his thesis no favors in inviting us to look at history for empirical data; history depicts the entirely opposite scenario. The disintegration of great nations often coincides with their loss of self-identity, Rome being a case in point.

The coup de grace is delivered in true Forest Gump style; "Life is like a choc-o-late box". The candle is actually not a bad metaphor to illustrate the problem with pyramid economics, a wise man only lights the candles he needs to light the room.
In keeping with Taheri's Rome comparisons I'd like to inject a little reality from people who know their history on what this wonderful new source of manpower means to Europe:

Importing grain into Italy from Sicily and Egypt, where it was produced at lower costs due to slavery, drove down market prices, eventually pushing small farmers off their land. They moved into the cities, where they lived off welfare manipulated by politicians [the infamous plebs of ancient Rome]. Their small farms were consolidated into huge estates, operated by absentee owners and slaves. In the end, the land itself was destroyed by this economic process.
Replace slaves with cheap labor and small farmers with Europeans. It is happening now.

Hell, Ill take a stab at this. You have answered your own question in the last sentence. The American "educational" system is the problem and that is why this Iranian *shabbos goy* expects the lemmings who read *National Review* to learn expects. The system here isnt to teach anymore, but to indoctrinate folks in MultiCultism and the politics of not being "judgemental." In a nutshell it is called secular humanism.

Excellent posts gents. I deteste the drivel spewed by "conservatives" like the quote above from Mr Taheri. These people are the Destroyers of the West. They scare the populace with ugly lies, so as to force them into accepting third worlders into their historic, clean, aesthetically magnificent European cities and towns, only to see the Muds wreck the landscape. Examples: London, Paris, Amsterdam. This foolish traitor devil Taheri specifically calls out Germany, Italy, and Spain because these countries, quietly and illicitly, are resisting massive Mud invasions. I know it is true, since I've been to all the above cities and countries, except Spain(but I've read alot on Spain's current state and met Spaniards here and in Europe), and I find many, many, many Euro folk disgusted at immigration and more open about it than Americans. Especially the Germans. These criminal journalists in the clutches and on the payrolls of ZOG have already succeeded in destroying everything good about America and her cities and villages. They want the same destruction of White Europe. I have a gut feeling that the Europeans are already or may be planning a Resistance to Destruction. I'm probably just wishfully thinking but I think anti-American hegemony is at an all time high throughout Europe and that could set off a Euro-nationalist surge. You just can't call it these days.

Writing for history in the early 1800's Hegel noted that Europe at its zenith always included northern Africa among its dominions. He advocated further expansion for the Europe of his time. Another great moment in multiculturalism and uncontrolled immigration was what happen at Adrianopolis and to Valens in 378 A.D.
Most people don`t or understand the implifications of having to recruit foreigners of a different culture in the manner that the Spanish are doing here. Some of the latter day Roman generals were Germans like Stilicho as were most of his troops. This, as you know, only came about because the Romans became sorry as hell.

One thing Amir Taheri NEVER touches is on law - imposed and enforced. Is he ready and willing to submit to Sharia? He's all for waves of muslims moving into European polities ("it's all to the good"), but he carefully leaves out WHO WILL RUN the European courts and jails and legislatures...
All these young strong-backs (small-minds?) he's bringing in from Africa to replace the old and wise folks he wants to 'turf out' are NOT participants in western law and order and altruism and reciprocity. Who is going to stand over them with a weapon and enforce such silly laws as "you don't rape women who aren't shrouded?"
Rome WAS destroyed by the loss of the fear of Rome -- was it not the case that, when Rome RULED its 'client states,' if a subordinate country resident killed a Roman centurian he was killed? Instantly, without sorrow and handwringing... And when the strength and might and RUTHLESSNESS of Rome was diluted and that was no longer the case, then people stopped fearing Rome's might, and it all went to h#ll?!
Multicult only works when there is a strong and ruthless 'management' of it. I'm always astonished people DON'T see that once the boot of the USSR was removed from the necks of ALL those satellites, they immediately devolved (or is it, exploded) into racial and ethnic violence.... just like as happening here! Once they were no longer frightened of the massive hand of the USSR, all the control was off.

Hello Walter, the first three words mean 'the Irish are' but there is no equivalent word in English for 'gile' (or 'geal' in a singular context). In my handle it could crudely be interpreted as 'white'. But the 'white' in this case is a poetic word that could equally mean pale, luminous or brilliant. Geal is a good word to describe moonlight; it is also part of my surname which translated means "The pale or bright one".

What I love most about Taheri's plan is the idea that old pepple in Europe get to have fun in the North African sun in exchange for the end of the white race. When I first read the article on NRO, I had to go over it once or twice to make sure it wasn't satire of a 'modest proposal' variety. But no, Taheri is apparently serious. Non-whites have figured out the best way to destroy the white race is not through leftism--this just allowed whites to seek refuge in conservative parties while claiming not to care about race. No, the best anti-white strategies are to co-op right-wing thought--because you sure as hell can't turn to the left.
Taheri and like minded thinkers sense that whites will to survive is flagging. They smell blood, and appeal to whites desires for immediate personal comfort--behold, we will bring you an army of shoe-shiners, nannies, and window-washers--in order to convice dumb whites to commit ethnic suicide. The 3rd worlders will be glad to hold our hands and whispers sweet nothings to us while we are in the terminal stages--oh, your democracy ideas are wonderful, and I really enjoy HBO as well, thank you, thank you. This is very true and an increasingly used tactic. I guess there is only so much mileage they can get out of 'white guilt' and now it's time to fall back on 'short-sighted self-interest'. Somewhat ironically the antics of the NWO are ensuring that increasingly few whites can afford "shoe-shiners, nannies, and window-washers", so the whole thing may backfire. We can but hope.

Hitlerââ¬â¢s formative years in pre-WWI Vienna impressed on him the inferiority of the multi-cultural Hapsburg Empire and, naturally, the non-German races that comprised it. Poor military performance and break-up of the Dual monarchy served as confirmation of non-viability of ethnically diverse states. These experiences guided his somewhat muddled thinking on the subject until (as Wintermute alluded to) political considerations necessitated he include Slovakia, Croatia, Hungary, Finland, Romania, and Lithuania among his allies in WWII. Of these, the first two along with Lithuania (Nordic component here acknowledged) are Slavic, the next two are genetically & linguistically the most non-Aryan (assuming only Germanic, Romance/Latin & Slavic sub-groups) while Romania is a Romance country linguistically but a basket case genetically, so much so that the populace nears Gypsy in appearance (with apologies to then Romanian conservative traditions, the existence Ploesti oil fields meant Hitler would have sought ââ¬Ëallianceââ¬â¢ with the country even if its inhabitants were Hindus).

Are you being entirely serious when you talk about a 'destiny' here? If so, why bother discussing our whites supposed lack of racial discernment, etc? What motivates you to do bother with contemplation the path of decline, assuming you think decline is inevitable?
Many conservatives are deeply pessismistic individuals. Conservative intellectuals often present a 'the past was glorious, but now we can only preserve a few fragments against the coming horde' view. I say, why bother? Either try and come up with some paths that might lead to a bright future for the white race, or just give up and join the multi-colored barbarians--sterilize yourself, and take up Zen pottery or the like.
PS to Sisyfos--that last directive was meant for overly pessimistic white conservatives, and not necessarily for you.

Troll rban, I like the way your beloved hindus must purchase all their complex military hardware from russia because all these "brilliant" dothead scientists and engineers are incapable of designing and building a functional modern main battle take or jet aircraft. Why don't you get back to us once india gets rid of the bubonic plague or catches the elusive "monkey man." Personally, I find hindus rather harmless compared to some of the other stuff out there but to pretend india(average iq 80) is home to some kind of master race is preposterous.
As for the national review today, it couldn't be any worse if it were edited by Theodor Adorno. The bottom line is that the conservative movement is totally in the hands of our enemies. Dissenters from what the people on this forum call "neoconism" are less than 1% of the people in America who call themselves conservatives and have no access to the institutions of the movement.
