He doesn't get the girl and he doesn't even have any lines, but Sen. Robert Byrd still is looking forward to his big screen debut.
Byrd said he is eagerly awaiting the Feb. 21 premiere of the Civil War movie "Gods and Generals," which will include his cameo as Confederate Gen. Paul J. Semmes.

Damn the silliness of all this. Lott gets hell for simply saying the country would be better off had Thurmond won (the truth of which was never discussed at all). And Robert Byrd is playing a Confederate General even though his state was with the Union (technically WV was illegally created by the Union and thereafter suppressed by the same's Army).
One thing I hadn't heard mentioned in all this is that Thurmonds opponent is the only man to date to have used the most heinous of WMD on a civilian population. Truman is a war criminal by our supposed standards. So a civilian killing war criminal is better than someone who simply didnt want to be forced to interact with that most corrupting race. What values we have.

At the risk of sounding like an "Uncle Tom", I too am not pleased at all with this whole Lott affair. Former president Bill Clinton has a sexual affair at the White House (during his administration) and gets a slap on the wrist. Senator Trent Lott makes an unpopular statement about an event that took place over fifty years ago and the man is crucified. Is this, like, totally unfair or what?
Goodbye, Freedom of Speech. You'll be missed.

I think Gen. N.B. Forrest was from West Virginia. And the Invisible Empire was strong in that state.

Forrest was born and lived mostly in Tennessee.
Stonewall Jackson was born in Clarksburg, VA, which was later included in WV. But I believe he was living in Lynchburg prior to the war.
Visiting a war museum one time I observed a pamphlet directed to the people of West Viriginia by the Confederacy. The pamphlet said something about the Confederate Army freeing those people from their illegal government imposed by the Union.

amundsen,
Yes you are Right. Sorry about getting that mixed up. *Stonewall Jackson was born in Clarksburg, VA, which was later included in WV. But I believe he was living in Lynchburg prior to the war.

The "Republican" Party was able to keep power in West Virginia after War, but then lost the State after the illegally passed 14th Amendment was put in place.
