Did anybody else wonder how the various police departments arrived so quickly on the scences of the shootings? Well, I think I stumbled on a possible reason why. This might also explain why Maryland Commissar Glendenning issued an edict banning all recreational discharge of firearms. Ed Harris is a long time gunwriter especially well versed in reloading. He is currently editor on a website developed by Finnish experts. He disclosed the following in an installment written on quiet loads. Big Brother has all the tools it needs and then some.

I wanted a quiet "Cat's Sneeze" load which could be used for shooting garden pests without disturbing the neighbors. Another real concern is that today's "Big Brother" technology utilizes computerized noise sampling and direction location on cellular telephone towers around Washington, DC and some other major cities. This has been very well documented in the public safety literature and is no secret. The equipment is adapted from the methods developed by NATO to identify the sound signatures of individual submarines.
Only now we are applying the principle on dry land, and instead of scatteriong sono-bouys by P3C aircraft, they can put listening devices on a multitude of cellular towers which cover every urban area and Interstate highway in the country. The computers can readily discern the difference between a construction worker pounding a nail, and a firearm discharge.
Experimental system now being evaluated as part of the Homeland Defense program in several key cities have the ability to detect and identify a sound anomoly, and if it fits the archival data signature bank of a known weapon, it automatically "polls" surrounding tower sites to evaluate the sound and triangulate it accurately within 100 meters or so, while automating dispatch of the closest police units. A lawful firearm user having a concealed weapon permit, preventing a crime in progress may be confronted instantly by heavily armed law enforcement officers who think they are converging upon a probable terrorist. Not a pleasant scenario for long term survival.

911 calls would mostly likely have been made moments after the sniper attacks. The listening divices would hardly be necessary to explain the rapid response.
BTW, computers can easily recognize specific sounds where humans cannot because of overwhelming background noise.

Since the sniper has been posted again as a topic; accepting Happy Hooker's remarks; I want to use this forum space to advance further the "3rd party" (white van) involvement theory, and its implications.
There is a very clear focus that is a key to it all: The Oct. 7 shooting of the 13 yr old boy with Tarot Card and shell casing evidence. A flat contraditiction has been published in the NY Times over the wording of the message. 1. "The card bearing the added message "Dear Policeman: I AM GOD" ("Macabre Clue in Sniper Case: A Tarot Carot", 10.10, p. 1. Also luridly splashed across NY Post p. 1) 2. "He (Malvo is referred to -- don't ask me how the Times' authors know it was him) was also the one who scribbled on a tarot card "Call me God." This message, dropped at the scene of an earlier shooting, was originally reported as "I am God." ("Retracing a Trail - 11.3, p. 32)
What difference does this make? - A lot.
1. The difference between "I am..." and "call me" is degree of power, authority, archetypal accuracy, as a communuication event. "I AM" assumes the actual identity of the Almighty. Not kid stuff. "Call me God" is poseur kid talk.
2. Archetypal accuracy means: The "la Morte" card is notorious for its double meaning: death - change- REBIRTH. Child sacrifice is the ancient blood ritual of re-birth process, acting out the fetal drama originally exerienced individually, at the unconsciously shared group level. This is what America, via "Washington" its capital, was doing vis a vis Iraq. It is what the message the sniper shot back. Ari Fleisher's "price of a single bullet" quip hit home; all I spoke with recalled it.
3. The fact that the NYTimes SILENTLY reversed its first account
(corrections of false reporting are usually explained in detail) shows someting big is up with that. In fact, the federal prosecution's case is at stake. Its that big -- and the public is owed a correct account, and picture of the actual card, if it hasn't been lost or destroyed accidentally.
Here's why. They have no forensic link of Muhammed and Malvo to all cases except through the Virginia shootings (Home Depot; Ponderosa Steakhous at Ashland), EXCEPT HANDWRITING EVIDENCE ...leaving aside the rifle-bullet, car-sighting matches. However, even though Malvo's Bellingham, Wa. school work linked him to the letters, does it match the printing on the Tarot card? For that matter, what of the shell casing?
When Muhammed is found next night by police in his car, after having ostentatiously signalled his intent to spend the night to the Subway clerks, knowing they would check it out, Malvo wasn't there. This argues a third drop-off point, for he surely could have been detained. A laptop computer in-use was reported seen. Here is a man, I submit, who is part of a larger operation, expecting to be picked up, and the officer flubbed. The second letter (Oct 22, bus driver Johnson shooting) harked back to "5 deaths" due to "incompitance", as if the Oct. 7 was supposed to end it. However, the hypothetsis here is that the later, Virginia shootings WERE CONTRIVE TO JAM THE FOLLOWING SEQUENCE, CONNECTED AS LOWER-LEVEL CRIMINAL EXTORTION PLOT BY TWO BLACK MUSLIM
GUYS "CONVERTING FEAR INTO BUCKS", UP AGAINST THE FIRST SEQUENCE OCT. 2-7.
Notice how this acts, if one's mind is disciplined to FOLLOW THE TRAIL OF EVIDENCE FROM LAST-TO-FIRST: retracing this way, in reverse, as the prosecution will do to establish that M&M killed and commicated, only then taking up the tarot as ... walla ... Malvo's work.
But, to repeat my point, that gesture was 'way, 'way beyond the capacity of this kid to conceive of, much less do, with such deliberation.
If your mind is now threading back down from Oct. 2, anchored to the notion it was this pair doing it all all along, then:
Your mind is whisked from suspecting two white guys in a white van, to two black guys in a dark blue Chevy Caprice....
You can forget any bleeding heart notions that America was getting a message about itself at the group level, that it was getting its youth killed....its only the randomness of kill-for-money greed Muslims see all Americans as anyway. The lowest form of common criminal, holding our kids in hock to their evil ways. (Hello?)
And fuggedabout any white van; the witness Dowdy (at the Oct 11 Home Depot who surely must have seen something, so what was it?); or any white van at the rest stop (but who did call 911 first, and what was his story, and will Ron Luntz be allowed to talk?)
With the Feds heavy-handing first,physical control over the suspects, and second, over prosecutorial strategy, I dunno folks. There is something inside this that smells worse than they did in the YMCA showers. I demand the election be stopped. (ha)
