"WASHINGTON D.C. — On the steps of the U.S. Capitol, the Eggle family talked about Kris Eggle.

They talked about his life, his dedication to his job and how they believe increased border security could have prevented his death.

A National Park Service Ranger, Kris Eggle was killed in the line of duty Aug. 9 while assisting border patrol officers at Arizona’s Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

Eggle’s parents, Bob and Bonnie, his sister, Jennifer, and several other family members and friends went to Washington, D.C. to speak to members of Congress and representatives from the Interior Department involved with the Immigration Reform Caucus Tuesday. The caucus focuses on border security.

“Kris’ death needs to bring about reform, we have to make his sacrifice meaningful,” said Bob Eggle of the family’s trip."

Kris Eggle was raised on his family’s 130-year-old farm in Cadillac and graduated from Cadillac High School in 1991 as class valedictorian. He attended the University of Michigan and was a member of the Wolverines’ cross-country team.

Kris Eggle accepted a student conservation position with the Park Service in 1995. He joined the staff at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in 2000.

**Up to 11 Bodies Found in Train Car **

DENISON, Iowa (AP)--Up to 11 bodies, possibly immigrants being smuggled into the country, were found in a Union Pacific rail car, authorities said Monday night.

All the victims were from Mexico, said Jerry Heinauer, district director of the Immigration and Naturalization Service for Nebraska and Iowa.

Heinauer said he was told by the Mexican consul that the car left Matamoras, Mexico, in June. It was parked in Oklahoma before heading to Denison, about 60 miles northwest of Omaha, Neb.

He said authorities do not yet know whether the victims were being smuggled into the country, but said the case fit the pattern of smuggling operations.

**Two Illegal Immigrants Shot To Death In Pinal County **

Pinal County authorities are looking for a man who opened fire on a group of illegal immigrants in a desert area near Red Rock Wednesday afternoon. Two were killed, and an unknown amount of others were injuried.

Investigators say a group of at least 12 immigrants were gathered at a stock pond when somebody drove up, got out of the vehicle, and opened fire. Some of the immigrants were able to run for cover. A helicopter was looking for other survivors Wednesday night, but had found nothing. Authorities are now shifting their focus towards finding the gunman.

Our Government should be paying people to do this kind of thing!

Put the Amry on the Border with some M-2 .50 BMG, that would do the job very well!

Armed citizens capture pot load

By Tim Steller ARIZONA DAILY STAR

LOCHIEL, Ariz. - Members of an armed citizens patrol seized about 280 pounds of marijuana Tuesday and Wednesday from smugglers crossing a ranch owned by The Nature Conservancy.

About 13 volunteers for the group, called Ranch Rescue, have been working near Lochiel since Saturday in their first mission aimed at surveillance, rather than cleanups at border-area ranches.

An official of The Nature Conservancy said Wednesday night the group was unaware Ranch Rescue members had been operating on the San Antonio Ranch, about 65 miles south of Tucson. Tom Collazo, the director of conservation for the conservancy's Arizona branch, said the ranch manager would ask the group to stop today.

Victim, Bridgit F. Townsend

The convicted rapist who last week led police to the remains of missing Bandera teen Bridget F. Townsend has been charged with capital murder in her death. Townsend, 18, vanished Jan. 15, 2001, from her boyfriend's home in Bandera County.

Gonzales, 19, became a suspect nine months later after he abducted and raped another Bandera County woman. He pleaded guilty to those crimes and received two life sentences Oct. 1. Bandera County Sheriff James MacMillan said Gonzales admitted killing Townsend on Oct. 7 in an apparent bid to remain at the jail near family after being told he was being transferred to prison. Interviewed in jail Oct. 9, Gonzales told the Express-News that he kidnapped and killed Townsend because she was at her boyfriend's home when he went to burglarize it.

Couples Charged With Sham Marriages

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- About 30 South Carolina women pleaded guilty this week to marrying illegal aliens they barely knew to help them get green cards and stay in the country, authorities said Thursday.

The women were paid between $1,000 and $6,000 to marry strangers, mostly of Pakistani descent, U.S. Attorney Strom Thurmond Jr. said. They were among 107 couples charged this week with sham marriages in a federal probe called Operation Broken Vows, he said.

In light of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the FBI is investigating the grooms to determine whether the men are linked to terrorism, Thurmond said.

Authorities have arrested 106 of the 107 women who police say agreed to the marriages. Most of them were single mothers looking for a way to make ends meet, defense attorneys said.

Mexican Generals Found Guilty on Drug Charges

Associated Press Nov 1, 2002

MEXICO CITY (AP) - A military court on Friday convicted two generals of aiding drug smugglers, concluding a high-profile case aimed at cracking down on Mexico's drug trade.

The five-general panel convicted Gen. Francisco Quiros and Brig. Gen. Arturo Acosta of protecting cocaine and marijuana shipments for drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes, who died in 1997 after undergoing plastic surgery.

It sentenced Quiros to 16 years in prison and Acosta to 15. They have already served two years. The court cleared the men of another charge of criminal association.

Prosecutors accused the generals of protecting drug smugglers and using military airplanes to transport shipments of cocaine and marijuana.
