May I suggest those of you not living in Texas prepare yourselves for a firestorm of foaming at the mouth (wait, what are those white flecks bedecking the lips of those who will scream the shrillest?) on November 9th, 2005, piped to the world by national and possibly international media organs. (ooh, bad, bad pun  )

Why?

Early voting has begun, and voting will close out on Nov 8th, to deal with 9 proposed ammendments to the State of Texas' Constitution. The second proposition on the ballot is the one that elicits the most comments, of course, a matter of voting on a lawful decision regarding what marriage is, and what it is not.

There have been editorials galore on this matter.

Ballot Language "The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage." "Enmienda constitucional que dispone que en este estado el matrimonio consiste exclusivamente en la unión de un hombre y una mujer y que desautoriza, en este estado o en alguna subdivisión política del mismo, la creación o el reconocimiento de cualquier estatus jurídico idéntico o semejante al matrimonio." Brief Explanation HJR 6 would provide that marriage in Texas is solely the union of a man and woman, and that the state and its political subdivisions could not create or recognize any legal status identical to or similar to marriage, including such legal status relationships created outside of Texas.
I don't much care for Prop 5, personally. http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/2005novconsamend.shtml

There is some "reverend" calling people and giving them false info on what the bill is.

AE, that was punny.:smartass:

prop 5 hasn't gotten much attention but could have a big impact.
