Since this story is making the rounds, it seems that all is not as it appears.

the lion was already dead when the mule went at him, but like the story says, that is one "Bad Ass".

A mule killing a mountain lion? LOL, I don't think so. Especially not in the way supposedly shown in those pictures!

The only way I can imagine a mule successfully defending against a mountain lion attack would be if the lion were attacking from behind and the mule got in a hard kick to the lion's head. Possible, I suppose, but not very likely. I once saw a video clip of a mountain lion killing a large elk, and it was no contest.

BTW: Mountain lions are magnificent animals. I can't understand why anyone would want to hunt them.

Agreed.

This hunter needs to spend some time in the pen, unless those painters he took down had become overtly aggressive to humans.

The college I went to had a tame, clawless mountain lion in a large outdoor cage. My girlfriend helped to take care of it, so we would go into its cage. I used to wrestle it...man, was that thing strong and fast. Good thing it didn't have claws...it would have had me in a few seconds.

You couldn't have paid me to get into that cage.

Locally where I live coyotes have moved in and have become a problem to livestock raisers. Many of them have resorted to putting mules with their cows and other livestock to protect them because they believe that a mule fights coyotes. Well, up the road from me a cattle farmer did get a mule and that mule did more damage to the cows than the coyotes did. The mule first bit the back of the neck of a calf and the farmer had to take the calf to the vet for stitches. Then the mule started chasing the cows away from him. The man now has the mule in the fence with some big bulls and that seems to have calmed the mule down somewhat.
