WASHINGTON - Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Daniel Ayalon accused Syria on Tuesday of sheltering 10 or 11 terror groups, which, he said, "is very bad news."

Appearing at the Nixon Center, a private policy group, Ayalon said Israel "is not in the business of regime change."

But while indirectly ruling out force to try to topple the Syrian government, Ayalon said, "We would like to see a change in Syrian behavior."

The Israeli diplomat also urged the Palestinian Authority to adopt a comprehensive program for dismantling terror groups in areas under its control.

Overall, though, he said Israel's withdrawal from Gaza has produced a working partnership with the Palestinian Authority and its leader, Mahmoud Abbas. Ayalon said Israel "is not in the business of regime change."

No, why should they be when they got the Bush Administration?

One can make the argument that the Israel govt. itself is one big terror group.

Heard on NPR this afternoon about a "suicide" of a prominent Syrian cabinet minister. BBC had this a while ago.

One wonders if "suicide" is an early prognosis aimed at forestalling in depth investigation . . .

[/QUOTE] That jerk, this is not news, this condition has only been true for about the last 26 years! US State Depratment has had the number and details of terror groups in Syria and Lebanon (for years virtually a Syrian terriroty) listed on their web site for quite some time.

Not news.

AE,

This "news" is nothing more than fodder for the Necon media to use to stir up the lemmings. Those groups (and I doubt there are ten or eleven) are directed against Israel. I don't know what to make of the death of this man. There is not enough information.

I don't think the Bush Administration has the forces to invade Syria at this time. I think if they decide to do something as idiotic as this they'll wait until after the ratification in Iraq and for the return of the newly reorganized 3rd ID and 101st AA divisions. More likely would be for a "hot pursuit" to occur along the border.
