COURSE DESCRIPTION

The events of September 11, 2001, indisputably changed the course of American politics and history. This course is offered so students may examine various events and policies leading to 9/11. In particular, this course will focus largely on the specific destruction in lower Manhattan and the Pentagon. We will examine the official story and analyze it critically. We will consider alternative explanations of what occurred as well. 9/11 was a catalyst for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as the attack on civil liberties in the United States. We will examine each of these with a critical eye. The goal of this course is to arrive at a solid understanding of how 9/11 has shaped our political future and to promote critical analysis by students of this catastrophic event and its aftermath.

This course will critically examine the government's official explanation of what occurred on 9/11 as well as it's explanation for attacking Afghanistan and Iraq. We will examine factual evidence in light of these explanations. We will also examine the "war on terrorism" and its implications for the future of American democracy. There is not yet a solid literature on the September 11 "attacks" or on the war on terrorism. This literature is emerging, particularly on the latter. This course will rely somewhat extensively on alternative news media and journalistic accounts and a variety of films and videos in lieu of literature.

First of all, nice to see you back here, Ed.

It is indeed interesting to see a college course based on this. Maybe there are others like it out there as well.

The summary of the course certainly leads me to believe that the professor doesn't accept the government's explanation of 9/11 at face value. In fact, if she did, then there'd be little point in having a course in the first place.

Maybe at least some of the students will bring up the Israeli connection. Hell, the ones who don't should get crappy grades.

Holy crap -- I just looked at her website!

Damn, there's little doubt about where she stands! Scroll over to the right side of her page and look at all those links related to Israel spy operations in the US.

I wonder if she's going to get in any trouble? She's an Associate Prof, so she probably has tenure. But if the ADL or Alan Dershowitz hears about her, they'll still try to get her fired.

We need more people like her in academia.

She sounds like a run of the mill leftist professor, albeit one with a focus on Israeli and neocon issues. There might be some common ground to be found with communists and the like, but you have to take a person like this for what she is, no more, no less.
