I recommend this book: "**Do-It-Yourself Submachine Gun: It's Homemade, 9mm, Lightweight, Durable-And It'll Never Be On Any Import Ban Lists!"

**"Build your own 9mm, blowback, selective-fire submachine gun that's as powerful as an Uzi or HK MP5 but has fewer parts and is more durable."

Yeah. Sounds good to me too. I'm about halfway through the book, and I'm glad I bought it. There's no reason to assume that these books will be so readily available forever. Or even for ten more years.

Amazed that Amazon.com sells books like these? Me too. A conspiracy theorist might say it's a way to gather "suspicious" names and addresses. In that vein, you can always have a friend of a friend of a friend order for you, using a UPS store box.

Some other excellent books in this vein:

(OK, the .50-Caliber Rifle Construction Manual has the lowest rating -- but hey, any book with a title like that is going to get a pass from me!)

Amazon lets you order a "bundles" of books that have a similar theme and save. Great way to maximize the "bang for your buck."

Good find Hamilton. I'll add these to your list as well. A homemade flame thrower Make your own automatic Sentry Gun

Just looked at the Bazooka link.
But it is not a handbook on making a weapon for taking out Osama's technicals or anything like that. Just a recreational tennisball launcher-
I for one am disapointed but it could still be fun making that too.

Thanks for the links -- I wasn't aware of the flamethrower link.

As for the bazooka, yeah, that one is pretty rudimentary -- like the .50 cal, it got a pass because of the awesome title. Still, many of these books are seriously informative.

I like the way you think, Hamilton.

Now, to be honest, I'd rather be armed with a semi-auto rifle than with a submachine gun in just about any situation. The main reason is that the rifle can penetrate body armor. Rifle calibers are obviously deadlier anyway, and you can still shoot very fast if you have to (~5 rounds/second should be no problem with any decent trigger). But I imagine open-bolt subguns are a hell of a lot easier to make than semi- or full-auto rifles, and that might be important some day. I'll never part with my rifles, but there will always be those out there who failed to arm themselves before something serious happens (widespread racial violence, tyrannical government crackdowns, etc.). So this is very valuable knowledge to have ahead of time, even if you don't actually make the guns right off the bat.
