I'm back using the laundromat. This large black male, leaning against a machine, kept staring at me. A looter type. Ignoring him I loaded the washer and then, finally, stared back. His look was ingratiating, like he was getting ready to ask for money. My expression was the basic public "f*ck off" look. Getting the message he leaves me alone, but keeps looking over at me from time to time, this time not so friendly. He's a big, dumb looking ape too. I go out to the truck and eat some fish n chips. Two Mexican gangbangers go into the laundromat and shortly thereafter I hear a whole bunch of loud cursing and "no, nigga I never have any money". I hear "nigga" about 5 times. Then the bangers leave, and go over to a tavern. I'm thinking I should go back to paying the Chinese to do my laundry. Anyway, the point of this story is had the gangbangers shouted "nigger" instead of "nigga" there probably would have been a fight. Such are the social conventions of the 'Kwa.

My girlfriend used to take care of that, and now she is away, hopefully not permanently.

Years ago, '93 I think it was, I was eating lunch at a fast food joint in San Francisco. A black kid came up and asked me for money. I told him no. He left without talking to anyone else in the place. I decided I must have a guilty white sucker face -- the easiest mark in the room. If I said no, the kid realized he was wasting his time there.

I'm a midwesterner. When I went to San Francisco, it was a major culture shock. My sister thought me cruel and indifferent when I turned down beggars. I realize now that she was wrong, but back then I still felt guilty saying no. The beggars must have spotted this in my face -- I did feel sorry for the kid whom I turned away.
My girlfriend used to take care of that, and now she is away, hopefully not permanently.
So your girlfriend is the one that usually deals with that laundromat, by herself?

I was wondering if that question would be asked. No, of course not. My girlfriend lives near a reasonable Chinese laundry, and she used to drop my clothes off there.
By the way, what's up with your avatar? Is that fantasy fullfillment for you?
...No, of course not. ...?
Wipes sweat off forehead Whew, thank goodness.
By the way, what's up with your avatar? Is that fantasy fullfillment for you?
It relates to my username. I've been in and out of message boards since '96 and have always followed racial discussion groups. After several years of being called cracker I decided to use the name to my advantage after reading a purported origin of it's use. That is that, 'cracker', was derived from the plantation overseer cracking his whip hence 'cracker of the whip'. The avatar is just a visual; reminds the select few out there of some history.

There has been at least three times I have been in stores, and have been approached by black people asking for help. I don't mean asking for money; I mean asking for help. Once an elderly black woman asked me if I could help start her car (she had transmission lock because the car was sitting on an incline). I was the only white guy in the place, and she bypassed every black person there to ask me. I don't know what's going on here. Did she think, "Well, he's white, so he must have a brain.' Twice I've been asked if they could pay for my gas with their credit card, and I would reimburse them the cash. Once a black woman paid for my food with her welfare card, and I gave her some cash. Then she turned to anothe black woman (who had apparently turned her down) and said, "See, he helped me!" I don't know if it's a "guilty white face" so much as it is, "Gee, he's white, so he must be a decent person."
