For my new homestead I'm building, I was planning solar panels. But, then discovered they cost more in the long run than the public electric. I've also noticed that in the last year couple of years, that the price of solar panels have been going up. My guess is if Congress is spitting out a 30% credit, solar panels will probably take another big jump in price.

Neither the current premium for a hybrid cars saves you money in the long run. Idealists are adopting the technology for reasons other than economical.
