Hi friends, For those of you here who are so inclined, I would like to ask that you please keep us in your prayers. My family and I got out of Metaire (Jefferson Parish) with our lives, but not much else.

VF,

I've been thinking about you and everyone else there. I'm glad you got out. Good luck to you and your loved ones.

VF, my thoughts are with you. In the tumult of the last few days, those who had the foresight and/or the means to get out early are sort of afterthoughts....but we should bear in mind that folks like yourself have in all likelihood lost everything you had except your lives. Keeping my fngers crossed on your behalf.

(I can only imagine what a war zone BR must look like right about now, if that's where you evacuated to.)

Glad your safe VF, and found someway to get an internet hookup. I don't think its hard for anyone to appreciate what its like realy to go through something like this, and revert very quickly to near third world living conditions. My prayers are with you VF.

I was wondering about you, VF. I'm sorry for your situation and will definitely include you in my prayers.

We're not too far away, so send me a note if there's anything I can be of help with. God bless.

Just got reliable information that my parent's home survived the flood waters, but that it is now in danger of being looted! This is bullshit. I am so angry and frustrated. I happened to be living in Miami (south Dade) in 1992 for hurricane Andrew, and in the aftermath of that hurricane they put out the word immediately that looters would be shot on sight. Period. The National Guard had orders to shoot. They won't do that in nola though -- don't you just love love how the national press keeps ignoring the obvious common denominator here? The images you are seeing on TV tell the story, though. I made a big mistake not taking my guns with me. I am currently outside of Baton Rouge, and apparently people in this area are beginning to get car jacked and robbed outside of grocery stores. Thanks for the kind and supportive words everybody. I'm grateful.

Valley Forge, my prayers are with you. Stay safe and alive and remember that material possessions can be replaced in the future.

Peace, XM

VF,

What Tex said applies here as well. I've been in the situation of having to clear out of a house at a moment's notice, but not for flooding. I know what you're going through, though at least I wasn't kept from going back for months. Drop a line if you need something.

Thanks everybody. You know another infuriating aspect of this situation for me is this: how is it that when there is a famine or disaster in Zaire, Ethiopia, or Botswanna, the feds always manage to land C-130s loaded with food, medicine, and other essentials, but they seem totally paralyzed in dealing with a disaster in our own country. It's a disgrace.

Not knowing much about New Orleans, I hadn't realized what a delicate situation it was in. All it took was breach at some point of a long lake wall. That would flood the city, putting out the power, and thus taking out the pumps. Then there was the other concern of a strong hurricane and strong storm surge flooding the city without any wall failing.

This was a disaster that the authorities should have seen coming and have done more to prevent.

Valley Forge, God be with you.

VF - I am glad you made it through this OK. God bless you and your family.

Lake Pontchartrain has an elevation of 4.5 feet. Most of the pump engines are at an elevation of 5 feet or above. When operational, the pump station can pump 100,000 gallons per second from the city into the lake.

Wow, guys. Thanks, but I am OK at the moment. I have access to food, shelter, water, and power in Livingston Parish, Louisiana (east of Baton Rouge), so I am OK for now. My brother tells me Livingston Parish is 98% White. Thank God, because I made the monumental mistake of leaving my guns at home (stupid, I know...you don't need to tell me).

Just talked to a Jefferson Parish cop. His parents are my brother's next door neighbor. Here are few details from a source "on the ground."
- Homes are being taken over in the wealthier and more affluent parts of Metairie where the flooding was not bad. Homes are not just being looted, the looters are actually trying to live in the homes.
Hard not to understand this. Anybody livng in an abandoned home is a helluva lot safer than out on the street.

VF,

Good for you. I'm glad you got out of that hell hole.

True, but it still makes me feel violated. I pray to God that if my home is occupied, it is occupied by decent people looking for safety.

VF,

if you had stayed to defend your property with a shotgun, your life would have been in danger from the looters and politicized law enforcement had you snuffed one or more of those animals.

I am glad you left for safety and that you and your family are alright.

Thanks, MR. Trust me, I am glad to be out of there. Now I am wondering if looting is considered a covered loss by my insurance company.

I am glad you and family are safe. I hope things go well for you now.

Yes that may be a problem. Sadly I fear you need to ready for a fight with your insurance company too.
Thanks, MR. Trust me, I am glad to be out of there. Now I am wondering if looting is considered a covered loss by my insurance company.
And as everyone else said:

I am glad you made it through this OK. God bless you and your family.

If you need to shop for guns here are a couple of fairly low priced easy to find ideas:

Mossberg 500 12/24 $215.18 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3163657

Remington 7400 Autoloader Rifle 308 Synthetic $402.32 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3170247

You are most Right. I feel a great need to get of Aztlan.
In any event, this disaster should be viewed as a wake up call for all us. What are seeing in nola is what will be coming soon to every major American metropolitan area -- and probably sooner than we think.

When I get around to rebuilding my life, if I can possibly find a way to do it and still earn a living, I am moving to all white rural community and not setting up shop within 100 miles of a large city.
